UPDATED – Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

My fascination with unlicenced ALIEN product continues with this pair of knock off space vehicles from the movie added to the site.

These 1996 STAR FORCE range of ‘pull back’ vehicles mostly focus on dodgy Star Wars toys.  However, it also includes knock off versions of ALIEN’s Nostromo and Narcissus as part of its product range.  Naturally, I have added this pair of unlicenced vehicles to HIDEOUS PLASTIC’s section dedicated to such weird and wonderful oddities.

You’ll find them at the bottom of the page dedicated to crossovers and oddities.

Build Your Own LEGO Alien.

While we are on the topic of unlicenced LEGO ALIEN products, you might like to take a pause to consider building your very own LEGO space monster! For only US$12, you can purchase the 70 page .pdf instructions for constructing this impressive 12 inch tall Alien figure directly from Build Better Bricks.  Of course, this is an unlicenced item so you’ll also need to spend approximately US$50 to purchase the 599 pieces required to build it.

Here’s some words from the seller “This model features a ton of detail and articulation as well as some really fun techniques and part usage.”  This does appear to be a lot of fun to make and a fine alternative to the substantially larger (and more expensive) Arvo Bros. LEGO item appearing a few years back.

More information and a video can be found on the supplier’s webstore page.  Have fun!

UPDATED – Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

I’m always happy to add something weird and wonderful to HIDEOUS PLASTIC.  Thankfully, it doesn’t get much weirder and wonderful than unlicenced product.  Today’s update adds a couple of new images of a pair of bootLEGO Alien minifigs to the section dedicated to such oddities.

This fine pair of specimens do look suspiciously like black and red xenomorphs depicted in Dark Horse comics GENOCIDE story.  Let’s just call ’em GENOCIDE bootLEGO ALIENS Minifigs.  Gah.  Way too many presses of the caps lock key.

Anyway, 6 fresh, new images of this pair have been added to the section on Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’ Part 4: Unexplained Phenomena.  Check ’em out.

UPDATED – Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

As part of my ceaseless effort to fill my life with weird junk, my Chap Mei Stellar Force action figure 2 pack arrived today.  Mounted on card with blister is a purple Highly Detailed Powerful Beast!  I’m adding him to the lengthy article on Bootleg and Knock Off ALIEN figures here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC.

I’m also adding the Wing Sang Toys Galaxy Trooper 2 pack which features the two headed abomination that is frequently mistaken for a Mexican ALIEN bootleg to the same page.  So, here they are, both of these 20 year old oddities expanding this section of the website dedicated to anomalous ALIEN action figures along with a bunch of other new photos as well.

I’ve done some major re-organising of this page today, separating some things out a little and giving it improved structure and it’s taking shape very nicely now.  Have fun with all of this weird junk.  I know I do.

SDCC 2019 Exclusive – NECA Superman Vs Alien.

NECA’s latest offereing will be appearing at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.  This time, Superman will be appearing alongside our happy smiling Alien friend in a pairing based on an old Dark Horse comic in this captivating Superman Vs Alien 2 pack release.

It’s the ultimate power of Truth, Justice and the American Way* confronting the galaxy’s most notorious space monster (Hell, I want the Alien to win – but you already knew that, right?)!  Well, they’re both Aliens, really.

Anyway, here’s what NECA have to say about this even exclusive ” The set includes two brand new, comic book based figures, both with over 30 points of articulation. Superman stands approximately 7” tall, features a fabric cape and comes with attachable eye blast effect. The Alien stands approximately 9” tall and has a bendable tail.”

We already knew this item was heading to SDCC 2019, but it doesn’t hurt to post it as a hat trick of exclusives I’ll never get to own.

SDCC 2019 Exclusive – WETA Xenomorph Mini Epic.

Looks like WETA Workshop are also releasing a San Diego Exclusive ALIENS figure at this year’s event, Thu. 18 July to Sun. 21 July.  Revealed is their Mini Epic Xenomorph figure.

WETA’s new SDCC exclusive item sure looks like a gnarly brute.  Here’s what they have to say about it, “Weta Workshop has spawned a genetically modified species of Xenomorph, now known as a San Diego Comic Con Exclusive with superior camouflage capability and double-jawed strength. This highly stylised figure stands at 7 inches tall with a pale exoskeleton and protruding inner jaw. It should be displayed safely away from small, furry things.”

This item will be available for US$30 at the event.  Nice.

SDCC 2019 Exclusive – TITANS Glow in the Dark Figure.

Let’s get a couple of San Diego Comic Con exclusive items quickly posted, shall we?  First up is TITANS SDCC Exclusive ALIENS 3 inch glow in the Dark Alien Warrior.

I love TITANS stylised characters from the ALIEN movies and this 3 inch tall vinyl runt certainly looks like a fun piece.  Here’s what TITANS have to say about this offering, “The unstoppable xenomorph from James Cameron’s Aliens returns for SDCC 2019 as this rare, limited collector’s edition: 3″ bullet-damaged Alien Warrior!”

He’ll be available at the event for a measly US$10.

UPDATED – Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

Today I expanded the section dedicated to bootleg and knock off ALIEN toys and action figures. The update adds 12 images of bootleg LEGO ‘bootLEGO’ ALIEN Minifigs to the site.  Included in this odd selection is a bunch of different coloured Aliens, Ripley, Kane and a couple of Engineers – all made to look and be compatible with regular, proper LEGO. lol.Go check out this expanding section of HIDEOUS PLASTIC dedicated to the weird things that escape the marketing departments of big intellectual property owners.  Strange and irregular things that can only exist in the nefarious realm of third party bootleg and knock off goodies.

UPDATED – Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

Finally got around to adding these 2 delightful critters to the page dedicated to some very strange ALIEN Knock Off action figures.  Here for your enjoyment are a pair of new entries dedicated to Bandai’s 1994 Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Pyther toy and Galoob’s 1995 UltraForce NM-E Ultra Villain figure.  Great stuff!

This pair was purchased at the recent Oz Comic Con in Melbourne and I was completely stoked to have found them at decent prices despite both of them lacking accessories.  For my purpose here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC, they are perfect.

Go check ’em out along with an assortment of other weird ALIEN imitations and ring-ins.

Oz Comic Con 2019 – Treasure Island.

I spent two days at Melbourne’s Oz Comic Con. Much of my first day was spent hunting for new ALIEN stuff – of which there wasn’t very much.  Mind you, I documented what I did find on STUDIO YUTANI.  The following day I was my own free agent and sought more intimately through random boxes of loose toys to seek anything I could find.  Here are the results of my endeavours.  My archeological excavations unearthed these Three Stooges.

The green character on the left is Pyther, a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers villain. Cast in green with a wonderful spring loaded tongue action feature, he’s a great four inch item made by Bandai in 1994.  In the middle is another Bandai figure, the wonderfully sculpted Tamashii Nations MonsterArts ALIEN Big Chap. Third up is an Ultraforce NM-E Ultra Villain.

UPDATE: Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

A new page has been added to the growing article on Bootleg ALIEN action figures.  Subtitled Part 3: Unexplained Phenomena this new page is dedicated to anomalous ALIEN crossovers, mash-ups and other hybridised figures made by unlicenced manufacturers.

Much like the previous pages dedicated to bootleg items Part 1: Kenner Bootlegs and the equally strange Part 2: Imitation action figures, this new 3rd page is work in progress and I will continue to add content as it becomes available.

As usual, contributors have been credited.  Thank you.  If you have any bootleg ALIEN action figures and would like to see them appearing on these pages, please let me know.  I’ll be happy to provide space for any unlicenced piece of ALIEN weirdness you may have; and as expected contributors will be credited.

Enjoy Bootlegs, Knock Offs and other Illegal Aliens: Part 3: Unexplained Phenomena.

Bloody Disgusting – 40 Years of Weird ALIEN Merchandise.

40 Years ago ALIEN was released to unsuspecting audiences expecting something a lot more like Star Wars.  Instead of space battles and laser swords they were treated to a giant fanged penis shredding a bloody path through John Hurt’s chest and across the dinner table.

Since then, ALIEN has had a lot of merchandise released.  The manufacturers didn’t even know it was going to be R-rated.  As a result a lot of weird things hit store shelves.  Horror website Bloody Disgusting has highlighted some of those goodies.

This stuff is all well and good and we’ve documented a lot of these things here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC but it can get a lot weirder than Bloody Disgusting’s short list.  While some of the items appearing on Bloody Disgusting were more than just frowned upon, there’s definitely omissions worth mentioning.

There’s a ton of other odd stuff out there, actually.  For example, missing is the Hasbro/PPW ALIEN Mr. Potatohead figure and  ALIEN matryoshka nesting dolls. To really hit that weird button, though, there’s that rubber ovipositor thing that you can use to insert gelatine eggs into any bodily orifice of your choice.  Despite the fact it’s not an officially licenced product, you know you want to.

UPDATED: (More) Bootlegs, Knock Offs and other Illegal Aliens.

Continuing from the previous update of nefarious bootleg Alien action figures comes this 2nd round of oddities.  Included here are a pair of Wing Sang toys and a selection of Mexican bootleg items whose manufacturer’s identity remains consistently unidentified.

These pieces of weird junk have been added to the already established page dedicated to these unusual and suspect product lines.  Go check out the page dedicated to these strange things, Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other Illegal Aliens Part 2: Imitations.

Have fun with that weird stuff!  What’s more, I have a bunch other Anomalous ALIEN Action Figures coming soon.  I’ll make sure to update these pages when the time arises.

Greg Turtle Studio Waving Chinese Imperial Style Alien.

As much as I love NECA. As much as I love Super7.  As much as I love all the other companies making licenced ALIEN content for us to buy, it’s the oddball, off the wall and unexpectedly strange items that truly have me entranced.  These are usually made by enthusiasts, creative fans and other third parties.

This waving Alien piece made by Greg Turtle Studios and inspired by Japanese traditional beckoning cat figurines and adorned with classic Chinese imperial blue art work definitely hits the mark.  Yes, it does wave.

Unfortunately, these items were made in small quantities over a year ago and sold out instantly.  Too bad, actually.  Does anyone know if a larger production run of these things were ever made?

ALIEN 40th Anniversary: Whatever Happened to..?

ALIEN Day has been and gone. A lot of good things have been announced and are on their way to us in the coming months. Super7 have already released their latest pair of ALIEN ReAction figures, NECA announced another crew member, Brett, in their popular range of 7 inch REEL TOYS and a few other goodies revealed. While these things are welcome, some absentees were also of interest. The most notable of these I’ve listed below.

Let’s start with Super7. Firstly, some of us were expecting the missing blue carded ReAction Wave 3 figure of Ripley (with Jones) to become available on ALIEN day. We even had confirmation from Super7 that this figure was indeed going to be available on April 26. Continue reading

Exclusive Target POP! Figure and T-shirt now Available.

It looks like Funko have released a fantastic 40th Anniversary ALIEN item exclusive to Target stores.  A new Alien blood spattered version of the critter along with a T-shirt packaged in official 40th Anniversary badged box is now available.  The price for this pair of goodies is US$24.99

This item is probably only available in the US.  On the other hand, I have seen such items frequently become available here in Australia at Popcultcha.  Go check out their webstore to see if it becomes available at a later date. Especially Funko’s POP! goodies.

NECA DJ Dog Alien Music Video.

Looks like NECA have put their product to good use here.  DJ Dog Alien, a sax duo and a trio of dancers appearing in this short animated video featuring performing Alien action figures on ALIEN Day.

This weirdness is welcome.  Hope we see more from DJ Dog Alien in the future.  Of course the big question here, will NECA be releasing a DJ Dog Alien with turntable..?  And a pair of AvP Aliens with saxophone accessories.  That’s a series of 3 figures I’d like to see released. Yes please, NECA.
