New ALIEN TV Series Announced.

Disney have officially announced a new ALIEN television series is being produced. Announced as part of the Disney Investor Day 2020 event, only the most basic details are available. Noah Hawley who has had a long running association with the long rumored project, will be developing the series for FX/Hulu. Ridley Scott is believed to be involved in the production in some capacity.

This is a great announcement for those of us wondering where the long running movie series is heading next. I’d be happy with a new movie but then again, the cinematic quality of television these days is comparable to anything appearing on the big screen. More so, television is a completely unexplored medium for the property and I will be looking forward to more details as they are revealed. If Scott is on board, the presentation quality and thematic content will at least be at the level of the Raised by Wolves HBO television series he executively produced.

In terms of content, this is known so far, “Expect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth. By blending both the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the non-stop action of the second, it’s going to be a scary thrill ride that will blow people back in their seats.” Expect a “scary thrill ride”, I guess. Considering FX is very happy to prominently include that phrase twice in their announcement.

What this also means is a potentially whole new range of merchandise, including more action figures and Lord knows what else. More space monstery goodness is never too much, I say. Now, that’s something I am seriously looking forward to. NECA will have something fresh to offer us rather thanmore recycled Aliens and compression suit figures. That’s got to be a good thing!

Thank you Bloody Disgusting for this information.

ReAction Figures Available at Popcultcha.

Australia’s wonderful supplier of ALIEN goodies and merchandise, Popcultcha, are now stocking recent releases of Super7’s ALIEN ReAction figures. It’s about time we had some of this 3.75 inch ALIEN love in this country again! It’s great seeing this fresh stock land in Australia. Significantly, this is probably the first time any blue carded ALIEN items have ever been available for purchase here. Released now are Ripley with Jones along with Dallas and the bloodied Attack Alien. These three figures are from ALIEN ReAction Figure Series 3 and are now available along with the complete set of nine figures comprising the recently released ALIENS set. At Au$29.99 each, they may appear a little pricey but factor in the “Free shipping over Au$100” and they immediately become a competitive and viable option to purchasing them direct from Super7 in California.

These are great little retro styled figures. Grab ’em while stocks last!

UPDATED – Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other “Illegal Aliens”.

The unlicenced toy industry keeps churning out bogus product and we keep buying them. What if that bogus ALIEN toy is actually broken? Is it worth keeping? Is it worth restoring? Is a counterfeit item, fake and disowned and ignored by its rightful intellectual property owner worth repairing? In some cases, no, it’s not. It’s just junk. What happens when the damaged bootleg is a synthesis of pop culture meaning and simply can’t be ignored?

Let’s take a look at this odd sample. It’s had some attention applied to restore missing parts. This weird and wonderful item is a Mexican bootleg Homer Simpson Xenomorph Alien hybrid, also known as the “Homermorph”. Isn’t he grand? He wasn’t always this good looking, though as multiple parts were missing and its owner, David Aliens EC, has restored this oddity to its original state – at least as original as can be declared for an unlicenced product like this. There’s more images on this page along with a selection of other bootleg oddities and curiosities. Have fun with these!

Video Review – Lanard Toys ALIEN by Kaiju King.

Here’s a superb unboxing and video review from The Kaiju King featuring Lanard Toys ALIEN Collection series. There’s a lot of joy to be taken from this video as this young lad – whose name I didn’t quite catch –  unpacks and provides his appraisal of his new toys.

I watch a lot of ALIEN action figure and collectible reviews on YouTube and this one has definitely become a favourite. Just about every other video I’ve seen features adults reviewing adult ALIEN collectibles. It’s refreshing to see such a young child evaluating ALIEN toys that are actually appropriate to his age group. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with adults messing around with such playthings on camera, either; but this young fellow hits all the right points including some critical evaluation towards the end. Fun stuff. Great job there, Kid. More videos from you about upcoming Lanard ALIEN toys will be greatly appreciated.  More, please!

Video Review – Bootleg Rebor Broodlord X-Rex.

While we’re on the topic of bootleg ALIEN toys and figures it is good to note Mexico still has a healthy clandestine bootleg toy industry today, churning out dodgy product as wild as ever. Let’s celebrate with a video appraisal of the recently released (2020) unlicenced Broodlord X-Rex Alien/Tyrannosaurus hybrid made by Rebor, bootlegged by an unknown Mexican manufacturer and fully narrated in Spanish by Senor Myers. What? Yeah. I’m not exactly sure I understand what’s going on here, either. Anyway, here’s the video. Enjoy.

I don’t understand a word of Spanish but I do understand this one amazing piece – well two pieces actually – when you include the removable Predator mounted on its back. I reviewed the original Rebor Broodlord X-Rex earlier this year. I love it. I also love this outlandish overdose bootleg in all of its strange splendor.

Now, for the real question: How do I get my hands on one of these lurid things?

UPDATED – Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other “Illegal Aliens”.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the section dedicated to Bootleg ALIEN action figures. What better way to do so than add a selection of photos of one of Mexico’s favourite and most frequently bootlegged Alien characters, the Scorpion Alien. The expanded, enhanced and updated celebration of lurid product can be viewed here.

This wonderful selection of new images is used by kind permission of their owner, Horacio Narvaez. That’s a mighty fine collection of incredibly weird and wonderful stuff you have there, Sir. I love it; and thank you for sharing it with us all. Anyway, the page has been updated in general with some reorganising along with other new information.

Video Review – Hachette ALIEN Public Test.

Fellow ALIEN enthusiast, Baptiste Coudert, has acquired a test run of the first four issues of French publisher Hachette’s ALIEN partwork kit for review. This is an upcoming product currently undergoing testing in France. This item is not yet available but when released, this subscription based kit will allow buyers to construct their very own 1.2m (half actual size) articulated Alien. Exciting stuff! Let’s check it out in this detailed review – which in all actuality serves also as a preview of what you can expect when this series becomes publicly available. At least in France.

So there you have it. So much revealed in this video alongside the first four issues of DIY half size ALIEN space monster! Electronic parts. Lights. Remote controls. DVDs. Bonus 15cm high resin statue… Oh, my. I wonder what else will be featured in upcoming issues aside from much anticipated loose body parts? This is going to be a treat! Thank you once again, Baptiste, for taking the time to provide us all with an insight into the contents this upcoming publishing line has to offer. Hachette may be on to a winner with this subscriber kit. At the very least, it looks to become a very unique addition to anyone’s ALIEN collection. At four feet tall when completed, that’s not talking about it lightly, either.

No release information, distribution or pricing details are yet available for Hachette’s ALIEN partwork kit. Let’s hope for a global release.

Hachette Part Builder ALIEN Kit Video.

French publisher Hachette have released a video of their serial part-building publication where subscribers can construct their own 1.2m tall ALIEN in weekly/monthly installments.

The entire video is in French, as is all other content being presented therein. Nonetheless, this video appears to describe the content of the first issue, which appears to comprise of a number of print material items along with the first parts of the head. The video goes into some detail for each of the publication’s items and a quick rundown on how the “face” of the Alien is assembled. Continue reading

Hachette Oversize ALIEN Model Kit.

French publisher Hachette is gearing up for something special for ALIEN fans. Currently in viability phase in an upcoming ALIEN model kit. The oversized kit will be available as featured components individually included in a subscriber based partwork magazine. Testing is now underway. Each weekly/monthly issue of the magazine will also provide the subscriber with a new body part to further complete your Alien. The final complete kit is expected to stand 1.2m (About 4 ft) tall. About half the size of the onscreen monster itself.

This test run sample shows us what we can expect from this multi part project. As this is currently under development, changes are still expected to be made. Eaglemoss is another well known publisher known for similarly produced subscriber based partwork magazine projects so I am relatively familiar with how this will work.

Weta Workshop – Ripley & Kane Pre-Order.

Weta Workshop in New Zealand have revealed pre-orders for their upcoming Mini Epic figures based on Kane and Ripley from ALIEN. These new 5 inch tall static vinyl figures are expected to be released sometime in early 2021. Nonetheless, you can pre-order this pair now. Kane, desperately attempting to avoid being accosted by a parasatoid space lobster; and Ripley, grasping her flamethrower in one hand and clutching her pussy in the other. Jones. I mean… Jones… in the other. Here’s some word from Weta Workshop “In 2019, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of Alien by unleashing the Xenomorph into our Mini Epics mix. We lost a few Executive Officers in the process. Luckily, our heroine has arrived to get the situation back under control. Mini Epics sculptor Mauro Santini has been involved in every stage of the Alien’s lifecycle. From the facehugger to the fully-grown creature, he’s added his trademark flair to H.R. Giger’s gruesome designs.” Sounds good to me.

TOYARK – ALIEN Wave 1 NECA Photo Shoot.

Always ever reliable to provide great galleries of images accompanied by reviews, TOYARK have posted a set of images of NECA’s recently released retro packaged trio of ALIEN figures, Dallas, Ripley and the prototype translucent Alien. NECA have previously produced each of  these pieces as part of their regular REEL TOYS range. They have now revisited them with fresh sculpts and details for this and upcoming figures in this range.

Dallas looks great.

The Alien looks great.

Ripley looks… errrmmm….

Honestly, the older version NECA made years ago boasts a better likeness. How much better? TOYARK provides a side by side comparison for each figure in their review, visually detailing the technical improvements of the new figure and how it doesn’t capture Sigourney Weaver’s likeness quite so well. Go check out the review and image gallery.

Upcoming Hiya Toys ALIEN Big Chap.

Coming next year from Hiya Toys will be their entry into the 1:18 scale market of their ALIEN Big Chap. This looks like a neat little figure and can be pre-ordered from Entertainment Earth. It is expected to arrive around May, 2021.As this item will be about 4 inches tall, it will no doubt be comparable to Super7’s 4.75 inch tall ALIEN action figure in size but appears to outstrip it in all areas ranging from styling, detailing and articulation. Here’s some word from Hiya Toys “The one who started it all! Hiya Toys presents from Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien, the original Xenomorph, the Big Chap! This inhuman creature, designed by H.R. Giger, comes to life with a figure captures the creature’s iconic look with a fully posable body and detailed paintwork at a 4 1/2-inches tall!” This item is scheduled to be released mid next year as noted above and expected to cost US$19.99, around the same price as a five points of articulation ReAction figure but with superior movement. Then again, the retro themed ReAction product line serves a different market, emulating toys made – and should have been made – forty years ago.

Hiya Toys New AvP Figures Pre-Order.

According to their Facebook page, it looks like Hiya Toys are releasing some new figures based on the 2004 ALIENS vs PREDATOR movie. Notably, there will be an Alien among the quartet to appear early next year. Pre-orders are now available.Included in this set of four figures is the  Alien Warrior along with three other Predator figures. Here’s some word from Hiya about this release “We here at Hiya Toys are excited to share the four new figures that go live today at our distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors. These are now available for preorder at your local comic shop, toy store, model retailer, and website of choice.”  The Warrior Alien is currently scheduled to release January 2021 with a recommended retail price of $19.99. I am guessing these will be in the same scale as Hiya’s previous releases and be around 4 inches tall.

The Unofficial Buyer’s Guide to Snailiens.

Snailiens. You know these weird things are going to exist, right? That is, snails that have somehow been mashed up with Aliens. Don’t ask how it works – how a fachugger is supposed to attach itself to a garden variety mollusc and produce these things is going to remain a mystery, right? Nonetheless, there are such things as ‘Snailiens’. At least as unofficial products.  Here’s a pair of them and you can buy these strange wonders online. Let’s take a closer look at these things, shall we? Is this going to get weird? I hope so.Back in the 1990s, Kenner made an entire range of ALIENS toys based on the most unlikely candidates from the Animal Kingdom. We got Gorilla Aliens, Rhino Aliens, Scorpion Aliens. We got Queen Aliens with dragon wings. There were Arachnid Aliens. Crab Aliens. Nothing was outside the imaginative reach of the designers at Kenner to dream up the weirdest concoction of unlikely mash ups and creations. Mantis Aliens? Yep, that too. Kenner made Mantis Aliens. Just about the only thing they never made were Snail Aliens – or “Snailiens”; and judging by what we see here above, this was a missed opportunity on Kenner’s part that sorely needs to be rectified. UPDATED – Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

It pains me to say it, I haven’t added anything to HIDEOUS PLASTIC’s section dedicated to bootleg and unlicenced ALIEN toys and action figures for a while.  A long time, actually. Today, I have corrected this oversight and had the joy of adding a set of ten images of Mexican bootleg ALIENS figures to this section. Featured in these new images are bootleg samples of the Queen, Scorpion, Gorilla and Bull Alien toys. These four blister carded oddities are derived from Kenner ALIENS products of the 1990s. At only three inches tall, these figures are diminutive and considerably smaller than the five inch Kenner items they are sourced from. As such, these twenty plus year old items are rare and very difficult to find today. Furthermore, this is a complete carded set, making it a great privilege for me to be able to post these photos on the site.

Thank you Marc Cawiezel for sharing your images of these strange aberrations with us all. You’ll find them towards the bottom of this page dedicated to this outlandish and lurid stuff. Brilliant! Hilarious! Awesome! There’s a simple truth behind it all. I love weird junk.

REBOR X-Rex Plague Variant Pre-order.

REBOR have revealed their latest tyrannosaurus rex/xenomorph hybrid, the Swarm X-Rex Plague variant. This item is now available for pre-order from Big Bad Toy Store. Genetically splicing dinosaurs with Aliens. Nope. can’t go wrong with that idea, right?Aside from an alternate paint scheme on the biomechanoid therapod, this variant differs from its earlier released REBOR predecessor with a completely new head sculpt with this version featuring the classic keratinous carapace frequently appearing on Alien heads. Here’s some product information from BBTS, “From Rebor, this Swarm X-Rex figure measures about 17 inches long. The Plague Variant version has been made of solid PVC and features a new head sculpt and coloring. The figure features a removable head dome and tongue, rotatable arms, and a bendable tail.” Sounds like a fun piece to me. You can pre-order now for US$49.99. The expected arrival date in store is sometime in July, 2020.

New Medicom ALIEN Statue Coming in June

It looks like Medicom are releasing a new Marmit ALIEN statue, scheduled to become available in June this year. That’s next month, just a short week away. Marmit ALIEN statues in the past have been very favourably received by fans and rapidly became sought after collectibles.  It would appear Medicom will continue this trend with this release. Here are some details courtesy of their website, translated from Japanese, “New appearance as a statue! Watermark is applied to the shadow of the whole body. Head hood is soft vinyl. Hybrid finish used! Base & plate!” This quality piece is 6mm tall and will cost ¥ 80,000, excluding tax (Approx. US$734).

Unlicenced ALIEN Air Fresheners.

Need a little something to rid your interstellar vehicle of that stale whiffy space trucker or yesterday’s marine undergarment odor? Then these things are for you! ALIEN air fresheners are available online from the supplier, Fresh-A-Rama.So, if your dank vehicle – or adobe – is in need of freshening up, then now is a good time to grab some of these air fresheners as the supplier is holding a sale on them. I’m not sure what an Alien would actually smell like but I am thinking a mixture of sump oil and stale blood is as befitting an odor of what a biomechanoid parasite would smell like. Nonetheless, there are 4 Alien and Facehugger designs, each emanating different odors of “New Car”, “Stormy Night”, “Strawberry” and “Black Diamond”.  Remember, these are unlicenced goods but word is they’re pretty solid product. Now is as good a time as any to have a facehugger dangling from your rear vision mirror – if such activity is legally permitted in your part of the world.

Thanks for alerting us to these oddities, Jay Wood.

Custom Made ALIEN PEZ Dispensers.

There appears to be a few of these things around, ALIEN PEZ dispensers. No. PEZ never actually made these things. Fans did. Apparently, modifying these confectionery disbursing toys by replacing the family friendly head with a face ripping space monster is a pursuit by artists wanting their very own ALIEN PEZ dispenser.Previously, these items were appearing on HIDEOUS PLASTIC but were bundled in with the equally weird bootleg ALIEN toys. Recently, I have received some welcome new content and can justify ALIEN PEZ dispensers having their own page. These unusual fan art objects are here on the new page dedicated to ALIEN PEZ dispensers.

Thank you to Myla Nery Lara for permission to use her images to make this expansion worthy.
