Hiya Toys 1:18 Scale ALIEN Eggs.

Hiya Toys have announced a set of three eggs in the 1:18 scale now available for pre-order from their web store. These eggs are based on the ones appearing in ALIEN covenant. Each of the 3 eggs in this set are in different stages of disgorging their contents. The first one is closed and inert. The second egg is activated featuring open labia with the contents still inside. The third egg is empty. I believe a facehugger is also included in the set, making it a set of four pieces. At four inches tall, I’m not sure how well these eggs will scale with other Hiya Toys figures at the same height. No released date has been set but pre-order is US$19.99.

Hiya Toys 1:18 Scale ALIEN Big Chap.

Hiya Toys have revealed a new 1:18 scale ALIEN Big Chap action figure. At this scale, the figure is 4 inches tall.  Looking at pics of the upcoming collectible toy, you would believe it to be much bigger. Yup, the detail looks great – especially for a 4 inch figure. This item is due out in 2nd quarter, 2021. You can pre-order from Hiya Toys website now. Not much more information is available just yet and the figure won’t be available for another twelve months. Nonetheless, we can expect a good range of articulation for this item as their previous ALIEN figures in this range have been well endowed in this area. Below are some more pics to keep you company. Just keep reminding yourself this item is only four inches tall – around the same height as a Super7 ReAction figure but likely to have twice as much articulation. No doubt such comparisons will be inevitable but both companies are producing distinctly different product for the difference of a dollar.

Minifigs Me Release ALIENS Custom Characters.

A new set of custom made USCM marines and other characters from ALIENS has been released on Minifigs.Me. A complete set of these “Xenomorph Hunters”will cost you GBP64.99 to GBP74.99. Perfect for that LEGO dropship you have spent $2,000 and 6 months assembling. Also known as bootLEGO, just keep in mind these are unlicenced items made in a small production run, hence the high price. They do look great, don’t they! Being unlicenced, a cheaper Chinese knock off version may yet appear at a later date. What? Foreign bootlegs of product that is itself an unlicenced knock off product? Yep. It does happen, surprisingly often. I may have to get some of these.

ALIEN-MAN is the Best Action Figure Ever.

Posting this sweet item here just for kicks. Here is my ALIEN-MAN with a Super7 metallic skin Alien ReAction figure.  ALIEN-MAN stands at about 5 inches tall. Isn’t he wonderful? The truth is, everyone thinks ALIEN-MAN is the best! Forget that Raymond dickhead, everyone loves ALIEN-MAN. This odd figure is definitely one of my favourite knock off figures in my collection and definitely one of my favourite ALIEN figures overall.  I even allocated the No.2 spot on my 10 Favourite ALIEN action figures to him a couple of years ago.

All hail ALIEN-MAN! Everybody should have one.

REBOR Broodlord X-Rex Available in Australia.

Here’s something I wasn’t expecting. REBOR’s unlicenced but phenomenal looking Broodlord X-Rex figure is available in Australia. You can order this Cretaceous King of the Hive from local online toy animal and dinosaur specialist, MiniZoo. This grotesque dinosaur/xenormorph hybrid will set you back a paltry AU$74.99. Considering how the value of the Australian dollar has recently performed a perfect triple back flip into the toilet since Covid-19 has taken hold in this country, this is a damn fine price! There are two things in my life I love more than a good pizza; and that’s Dinosaurs and Aliens. So this amalgam of both appeals to my sensitivities in multiple levels. I’ve been aware of this 43cm (over a foot!) long behemoth for some time but never anticipated it to become available in my own country. Fantastic! Quite often, items like this simply never reach these shores. This is a very welcome import.

Actually, make that three things I love more than a good pizza. Aliens. Dinosaurs. …and having awesome stuff like this become available in my own country without having to pay outlandish prices for it to be sent from overseas. Yes. I’m seriously considering getting one of these metallic finished brutes.

Weta Announces Micro Epics Queen Alien.

Not to be confused with their already released Mini Epic ALIEN figures, Weta has announced their upcoming range of Micro Epic ALIEN figures, which will be even smaller. First up, is their super small Alien Queen. At less than 3 inches tall, she’s a diminutive piece of royalty. This tiny, stylised figure is made of PVC and features three points of articulation. It’s tiny. At 60mmh x 28mmw x 60mmd it’s barely over 2 inches tall. It is shipped inside a stackable perspex case featuring a rotating turntable. I guess if you want it to be taller you can buy more and just keep stacking them up on each other. Anyway, looks like a fun little piece.

Price point is US$17.99.  Here’s what Weta have to say about this lovely little lady of the hive, “It was a pretty standard shrink-job to start with, but the machine got bumped and they came out really…small. Kinda weird-looking, too. I guess we could pretend we did them on purpose? Make a fancy little box for them, call ‘em ‘Micro Epics’ or something?”

Make sure you read the full product description and watch the fun video announcement. Weta clearly had waaaay too much fun with this one.

Updated – Bootlegs, Knock-Offs and other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

As much as I love the officially released merchandise we see from companies holding proper licences to the ALIEN property, I also adore the blatantly unauthorised and unofficial product as well. Here’s a couple of updates to HIDEOUS PLASTIC’s growing exploration of bootlegs, knock offs and other illegal aliens. This weird junk is truly something else. Here are the links to see more images and information regarding these dubious items. You will need to scroll down passed a slew of other remarkably questionable products and weird junk on their respective pages to find them.  Have fun!

Thank you, Marc Cawiezel, for providing images of these weird and wonderful treasures.  This stuff is not normal – and that’s why we love it!

Big Bad Toy Store have announced pre-orders for the upcoming MegaBox transformable ALIENS Queen figure by Japanese toy company, 52toys.  It is a follow up to their earlier MegaBox Alien figure released a couple of years ago which featured a Big  Chap with the similar feature of being able to fold into a pocket size cube. Here’s the word from BBTS, “Based on the 1986 Alien sequel, the MegaBox MB-10 features the Alien Queen as a transformable figure. This Alien Queen figure can change from menacing monster to a compact cube form.” The folding figure is made from translucent ABS and stands at almost 5 inches and folds down into a 2 inch convex polyhedron. Lanard Toys ALIEN Collection Range Expected to Expand.

A source close to Lanard Toys informs me their recently released range of children’s toys based on characters from the ALIEN movies has been successful enough to approve of “More sets coming! And Thanks for supporting the brand. The Alien Collection success is because of kids everywhere, and because of you, the fans.” This information comes indirectly from William of Lanard Customer Relations.

I’m sure young Wayne Phillips pictured here will be enthralled with this News as More sets have been approved for walmart later this year.” No further information is available right now or what the next wave of ALIEN toys will include but I understand Lanard Toys have aspirations to release bigger and more ambitious product by the end of this year. This is welcome News, I say.

Lanard ALIEN Toys and Children: A Perfect Mix.

It’s been a good many years since we have seen ALIEN themed toys overtly marketed at children. 40 years ago, the first Kenner ALIEN action figure, rated “AGES 5 AND UP” was released to retail and was received by the buying public as bemused at best and reviled at worst. It flopped miserably at retail and it’s failure was largely attributed to the toy based on an R-rated movie with it’s target market being children who weren’t permitted to see it due to the movie’s gruesome nature.

The failure of the Kenner toy ensured the company wouldn’t return to the series for over a decade, completely avoiding and sidestepping the manufacture of children’s toys based on the 1986 sequel, ALIENS. As a result, no toys or action figures intended for children were released based on that movie during the time of its release. 1992 would be the first year of Kenner’s wildly imaginative ALIENS series of toys to make up for that oversight. These were also based on R-rated media but given a decidedly child friendly ambience, rating them at an even lower age group of “AGES 4 AND UP”. Acceptability for such product was becoming more mainstream and for the next six years, Kenner delivered such product.

Then, in 2000 Kenner was shut down by it’s parent company, Hasbro. Extant Kenner product lines were absorbed by Hasbro while other licences, ALIEN for example, were deemed outside of Hasbro’s family friendly mandate and subsequently abandoned.

Since the beginning of this century, no manufacturer has been prepared to step up to bat for kids who might like to play with such things. Other manufacturers have indeed released product age rated as such, but still intended for a more mature collector market. Until now. It appears budget manufacturer, Lanard Toys, feels it’s time to bring ALIENS back into the family lounge room with an affordable price tag attached. 2020 will be remembered among fans, toy enthusiasts and families for doing just that. Mid January, at the time of this writing, sees Lanard stocking Walmart toy shelves with their own interpretation of ALIENS toys – product specifically made to appeal to children. Continue reading

Star Trek – The Malevolence of Purity.

I found this oddity on Facebook, The Malevolence of Purity, and it is fantastic!  It’s a fan made episode of Star Trek and a unique story told in a series of photographs made to serve as narrative of sequential art.  Effectively it’s a comic strip. It features Star Trek and ALIEN action figures shot against improvised backdrops and strung together to form a cohesive story. Importantly, it’s fun and the synthesis of both properties is told with skill and a solid understanding of the source material for both.  Amazing stuff considering zero dialog is used and it still holds together brilliantly as a tale.

Bantam Bellatorum and this team have created a fantastic journey for the crew of the Enterprise as they encounter an extraterrestrial organism of unparalleled hostility. It’s 240+ mouse clicks through an image gallery delivering a strong narrative from beginning to end.

Have fun with this! Your first click starts here. Then continue progressing through the Facebook gallery to experience the full story.

How Popular are Lanard Toys ALIENS?

Recently released, Lanard Toys may have hit gold with the release of their new range of ALIENS themed budget toys. That is, toys based on R-rated movies and sold with kids in mind. Of course, it’s not children who are buying them off shelves in significant numbers, it’s adults. Take Brian Quinlan’s recent purchase. Here’s a man with his priorities sorted out good and proper as this Walmart receipt testifies.  Five ALIEN toys …and some beer. The beer is almost an afterthought. Brian managed to buy 5 of the 6 items featured in this toy line and was happy to tell me The completist in me needs to get the power loader set (but it) wasn’t on the shelf.”  Sounds good to me. I bet Brian may have to chase it down – importantly, it may give him the excuse he needs to buy more beer. Go get ’em Brian!

Lanard Toys ALIENS Visual Checklist.

UPDATE: Replaced older WIP image with higher resolution V2 of the Visual guide.

Here it is. A visual guide to the content comprising Lanard Toys recently released range of ALIEN Collection action figures in the 4-5 inch range. This is a complete montage of all available pieces, some of which are currently exclusive to Walmart.

Word is this selection is intended to be Wave 1 of ongoing production for these toys. I believe Lanard Toys will follow through with more ambitious items in their ALIENS line if these items sell well. If that’s the case, this selection of a baker’s dozen pieces is set to expand. I’m all for it; just waiting with (im)patience for these things to land on Australian shores. I am told that will happen sometime soon.

Honestly, I do want to see more made. These things look fantastic – especially the lollypop coloured Aliens – and other people I have spoken to who already have them have assured me they are great. Wave 2 is more than welcome. Let’s make sure that happens and purchase these wonderful things.

Unauthorised PROMETHEUS ‘Bubble Gum’ Cards.

Sometime in 2016, I made a set of fake ALIEN Isolation bubble gum cards. I have always wanted to follow that little project with something along similar lines and recently created a complete set of 114 bubble gum cards created from screen images of PROMETHEUS.  As the movie takes place between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve 2093, I figure now, New Year’s Eve, 2019,  would be an appropriate time to release these into the wild for the general public to enjoy.

These things are purely unauthorised, unlicenced and not the real deal.  Just a fan art project I had some with. You can download these items in a single zip file from this page along with the older ALIEN Isolation cards I made 3 years ago.  Have fun with these.  Have a great New Year while you’re at it.

eBay – Mexican Knock Off Aliens.

Normally I like to hunt for 1979 Kenner ALIEN stuff on eBay.  Today, I found something else.  Much more hilarious and definitely a lot weirder.  Knock off Aliens made in Mexico.  I love this shit – and so should you.  Check ’em out.  The “wrong is strong with this one”:These lurid pieces of weird junk are great. I love them. I own several of them so I can vouch for their overtly unconventional take on the popular Alien form. Stuff made in Mexico breaks a lot of rules and these things are no exception. I have no idea who makes these things. There is no maker’s mark or any date of manufacture printed on the figures. Identities as to what kind of Aliens these ludicrous things are intended to represent is always at a loss.  This weird junk from Mexico is at once outstanding and crappy all in the same breath and is simply the Best of the Worst. MERRY CHRISTMAS, 2019.

Merry Christmas to anyone visiting this site today and for my own celebration I spent Christmas Day with my family at my Mother’s house.  Here I am with my mother, Shirley Wlodarczyk, posing by the Christmas tree with a Kenner ALIEN toy.

It was on this day, exactly 40 years ago, she gifted to me my very first Kenner ALIEN.

Of course, I wasn’t the only person to receive a Kenner ALIEN toy on Christmas Day, 1979.  Many children, younger than myself, were also recipients of this astonishing toy. Recommended for children “AGES 5 AND UP”, many of these figures became the proud possessions of kids around the world.

40 Christmases have passed since then and I’ve had the pleasure to talk to many people now in their late 40s or older who received one of these on that day as a child.  I have also seen around half a dozen photos of youngsters posing on Christmas Day (or soon thereafter) with their proud possession.  This image is to honour those kids, now adults; and also for my mother who was kind and understanding enough to grant me one of these weird things on Christmas Day, 1979.  I was 17 years old at the time and this was probably the last toy she gave me.

Thank you, Ma.
