UPDATED – ImPerfect Organisms – Kane with 2 Right Arms.

Continuing with my fascination with factory errored ALIEN products and stuff with wonky features, Kane with two right arms attached has now been added to the section dedicated to this kind of messed up junk, ImPerfect Organisms. I’m not even going to attempt to speculate on how errors of this nature happen during production. They just do; but there appears to be a great many samples of figures boasting anomalous features out there in the real world. A lot of them. I’ve only been able to document just a small sampling which are known to exist. Go check out the ALIEN freakshow where other ImPerfect Organisms such as this item now comfortably reside.

UPDATED – ImPerfect Organisms – Scorpion Alien.

Doing some research in my own collection and I didn’t even realise I had this Kenner ALIEN Scorpion package error. Here’s a Scorpion Alien with an incorrect mini comic inclusion. Featured inside the Scorpion Alien package is a comic intended for Kenner’s Mantis Alien figure.Intriguingly, this isn’t an isolated instance of this package error. I know of at least one other sample where this same error has occurred on this exact same product item. This item has now been added to this blog and become a resident of HIDEOUS PLASTIC’s section dedicated to production errors, ImPerfect Organisms. Click on that link! Check him out along with a sample of other extraneous ALIEN items featuring curious errors and mysterious anomalies.

UPDATED – ImPerfect Organisms: Inverted Dog Alien Card Back.

As I continue to expand the site and its content, sometimes “good things” drop into my lap. Here’s a case in point. I’ve recently been fortunate and grateful to acquire this wonderful factory error sample. Some package errors are subtle, almost undetectable upon initial inspection. Take this suspicious looking NECA Dog Alien for example. It looks mostly to be perfectly fine. Mostly. Except the card back inside this clam shell figure is definitely incorrectly oriented. It certainly becomes blatantly obvious when the back of the package is inspected. This wonderful unopened inverted Dog Alien action figure now has a permanent home here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC in a section dedicated to faulty curios and other haphazard errors. Go check out that link if you want to see it and witness more head scratching ALIEN error items that really should not have gotten passed quality control.

UPDATED – ImPerfect Organisms: Paint Anomaly Xenomorph.

Let’s add some more curiosities to the section on this blog dedicated to production errors, faulty goods and defective product. Let’s start by adding this 2021 Super7 ALIENS ReAction figure release that should have been painted gold (or maybe bronze?).While the items on the left and middle were released in correct colour schemes, the item on the right is simply inexplicably painted the wrong colour. As this curiosity may be an error (or potentially some kind of paint test/product development sample) it’s now been ceremoniously added to the page full of ImPerfect Organisms. That section is growing to be quite lengthy now. It’s almost time to start splitting it up. After all, more such “imperfect organisms” are heading to these pages very soon. Very, very soon…

UPDATED – ImPerfect Organisms: ReAction Alien.

I have added this curious item to the ever growing list of ALIEN products released featuring flaws, defects and other anomalous discrepancies. This item is Super7’s ALIEN ReAction figure released as part of the movie’s 40th Anniversary on ALIEN Day, 2019. The item on the left is the complete figure most collectors are familiar while the naked item on the right lacks the black characteristic paintwork which adorns the body. For this reason it has earned its place as a welcome entry among other ImPerfect Organisms here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC.There appears to be an abundance of Super7 ALIEN ReAction figures released featuring a variety of production errors. I’ve been able to document some of them; and more coming. I am thinking I will soon need to split the page dedicated to ImPerfect Organisms into two parts: One page dedicated solely to anomalous Super7 ReJection figures; and another page dedicated to everything else. I can see that happening in the near future.

UPDATED – ImPerfect Organisms: ReAction Alien.

ReJection Figures… I’ve been seeing a lot of these lately and right now it would appear to be ‘Defective ALIEN Action Figures and Toys’ Season. Here’s another one. This item is the Alien Warrior from Super7’s “Xenomorph Collection” wave of ReAction figures, completely disassembled in unopened packet. This is such a wonderful item and a great example of contents gone wrong, exploded into its basic parts. It’s been added to ImPerfect Organisms, the section of this site dedicated to such faulty product items and factory error samples. If you wish to own this item, it is currently for sale on eBay by the owner who was kind enough to provide permission for the use of these photos here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC. Thank you.

UPDATED – ImPerfect Organisms: ReAction Alien.

ALIEN Day was pretty good this year. Not a great load of announcements but we did see a few game updates and a selection other official announcements. Significantly, we did see a welcome promotional image from Alvarez’s upcoming ALIEN movie. No new action figures or toys were being promoted this year but I’m good with that. After all, we’re probably going to see new fun stuff when that movie and upcoming ALIEN television show are released. That will be some time yet and licence holders are probably already hard at work fulfilling those goals but not yet ready or (more importantly) constrained by NDAs to not make revelations right now. I’m sure Disney’s licencing department is holding the reins close to their chest on this issue right now.

In the meantime, we’ll keep chugging away at our fannish endeavors. Here is the latest addition to our section dedicated to ALIEN product errors, faults and defects. A Super 7 ReAction ALIEN figure in sealed package, missing its clear dome/carapace. Yes, that is correct. This item was packaged missing this iconic head covering body part. This fellow was sealed in this incomplete state. He is now documented and celebrated here at HIDEOUS PLASTIC along with a wide variety of of production error samples we have lovingly labeled as ImPerfect Organisms. Go check ’em all out! There’s some truly “smack my head” messed up samples on display there now.

Thank you Baptiste Coudert for photos of this slightly “wrong” figure. I love it.

UPDATE: ImPerfect Organisms – Alien ReAction Figure.

Here’s a wonderful and imperfect sample I’ve been wanting to add to the page dedicated to all things ALIEN and faulty for a long time. Here is a Wave 3 ALIEN ReAction figure, with no less than six errors. I’d argue it has more, but let’s just settle for half a dozen. That’s more than enough, right? For me, this little guy is the epitome of what ImPerfect Organisms is all about. Multiple missing parts, missing paint application – and last but not least – an incorrect part assembly makes him the ideal representative of this cadre of less than perfect product samples. Too awesome and I love him! This factory flaw has two right legs. I’m tempted to say he’s unique – but as you’re probably aware this is not the case. My post from a week ago indicates he’s not alone. I do have another Alien ReAction figure from a different production run with two left legs. Just see below. They’re a great pair, hey.

UPDATE: ImPerfect Organisms – 2x ReAction Figures.

Not all action figures are created equal. Most make their way to retail outlets in perfect condition to be sold to eager customers. Others have no hope of making this claim even before they leave the factory premises. Take this pair of Super7 ReAction figures. Here is the Alien and Ash, both made it out the gate to the public. Neither are fit for retail – and that’s what makes this jolly pair so interesting. This Gloss Black Alien is from Super7’s A1 Series of blind box SPACE VILLAIN ReAction figures. At a glance, he doesn’t look too bad but a closer inspection reveals he is in possession of two left legs. Ash is from Super7’s ALIEN ReAction figure series Wave 3, he’s intentionally painted with milky android blood over his upper torso. He’s meant to be like that but he is strangely lacking any details on his face. His eyes and eyebrows have failed to be painted and he blankly stares at the world, eternally failing to connect with his human being peers. The mind of a deceitful machine forever trapped behind a blind gaze.

This pair of malfunction quality control samples have both been added to the section on HIDEOUS PLASTIC dedicated to such production errors, faults and other anomalies that defy explanation, ImPerfect Organisms. Man, that page is full of weird stuff, and growing.

Mexico Bootleg Scorpion Aliens.

Just messing around with some of my favorite toys. Here’s a trio of bootleg ALIENS figures from Mexico. I love these things so much! That is, I love them the same way I love The Three Stooges. So here, let’s just call this messed up set of Kenner Scorpion ALIENS Larry, Moe and Curly (or is it Shemp?) and check ’em out a little closer… Larry, on the left is blessed with an alternate arm. At some point, either in the factory where these things are made or else when, he acquired an elbowless robotic arm. It’s a good match either way and appropriate for this guy. Moe, in the middle, demonstrates such color contrasts with his blue torso and red head and limbs, he’s definitely going to stand out in any crowd. Finally, Curly/Shemp is simply just lurid green without any compromises. Loss of detail, production artifacts, abundant amounts of demolding flashings and other anomalies just makes them beautiful, I say. Continue reading

UPDATED: ImPerfect Organisms – NECA Kane.

One of my favorite features on HIDEOUS PLASTIC is the section dedicated to defective product that really shouldn’t have made it to the outside world. When such flawed items from factories enter retail outlets and then out to the wild, it’s too late for manufacturers to do anything about it. Such errors are rare and can often be comedic in nature and worth taking a 2nd look to make sure you’re actually seeing the real thing. Here’s such an item that’s come my way and it’s a beauty! This is NECA’s Kane action figure from their 40th Anniversary ALIEN series, incorrectly packaged in a box intended for another figure. This truly is a lovely example of a production error. This Kane figure in his compression suit is packaged in a box intended for the Alien itself. This item is still factory sealed and shows no tampering with either of the stickers used to seal the package. This is exactly how this figure shipped from NECA’s factory.

You can check him out and a bunch of other unique factory error ALIEN items right here. Many are head scratching “wtf?” curios while others are outright embarrassing to their manufacturer.

UPDATED: ImPerfect Organisms – Righty Kane.

A couple weeks back I posted some info about “Lefty Brett”, a 3.75 inch ReAction figure with two left arms. Today, I have his crew mate, Righty Kane. Much like Lefty Brett, this version of Kane is an incorrectly assembled ReAction figure. This time, however, he is featuring two right legs. There’s one obvious question to be asked about a facehugged Kane. If a host gets facehugged and the Alien adopts traits of the host character, does that mean the Alien emerging from this version of Kane will possess two right legs? Well, maybe we’ll get to find out. Just watch this space!

Kane (right legs x2) is now added to HIDEOUS PLASTIC’s ImPerfect Organisms, an entire section dedicated to factory faults, production errors and other head scratching anomalies that probably shouldn’t have made their way into public hands.

UPDATED: ImPerfect Organisms – Lefty Brett.

It’s Christmas Day and I am hoping all is well with everyone. What do I have for you on this special day? Something a little odd and unique. That’s nothing new around here. Nonetheless, here’s a sample of a 3.75 ALIEN Brett action figure. Notably, he was assembled with two left arms. Oh, lordy. This is too good as there are obvious gags that have to be made here, Right Brett baby? Right. Moving Right along now, you can find Brett is now documented among a selection of other Left of center ALIEN production errors, factory faults and QC floor sweepings in HIDEOUS PLASTIC’s section dedicated to such ImPerfect Organisms. I guess I have nothing Left to say on this matter except two Lefts do not make a Right. Right. ROFL. Yes. I had too much fun writing this post. Right. Merry Christmas. Right. Awright. Knock it off.

Right.

UPDATED: ImPerfect Organisms.

Here’s a subtle error that many fans found a little perplexing upon release of Funko’s range of ALIEN Covenant “David” figure. It’s widely accepted this package doesn’t contain David, the android as identified on the box. Instead, this item is intended to be Walter, David’s android upgrade. For this reason, this Funko POP! figure has earned its place to be celebrated among the various other oddities and production errors that comprise the ImPerfect Organisms section of HIDEOUS PLASTIC. Have fun with those.

UPDATED: ImPerfect Organisms.

This wonderful anomaly arrived on my doorstep just the other day. It’s a NECA ALIEN Classic Series Neomorph, inverted in sealed package. He’s a beauty! This item has now been added to the section, ImPerfect Organisms, dedicated to factory errors and defective products. As Mr. Squiggle would say, “Upside down, Miss Jane”. Stranger Things eat yer heart out.
