Super Size Lime Flavoured Alien Arrived Today.

Q). What’s big, green, scary lookin’ and arrived today?

A). Super7’s latest 18 inch tall iteration of their 1986 ALIENS Kenner tribute figure landed on my doorstep today.  I have mixed feelings about this item’s arrival…Firstly, let’s just say it looks awesome!  Thank you Super7 for this fantastic item.  Sadly, it has suffered during transit and the box has been crushed and a little torn despite being well packed inside a sturdy mailer box.  The damage is visible on the lower left front corner and lower left side of the box in the image above.  Gah!  The hazards of international postage.  A bit disappointed about that. *sigh*  Oh, well.   I’m going to open it anyway but goods shouldn’t arrive in this condition.

Anyway, no matter.  Now that I am in possession of one of these things it will receive a lot of attention.   Here is my immediate list:

  • There will be a written review appearing on this site sometime later this week. (Done – you can read it here.)
  • I will be completing this item’s entry on the Kenner ALIEN family page.  (Done.)
  • I will also be updating and completing the gallery images and product details on the already extant Acid Green ALIENS Warrior information page.  (Also done.)

That short list will do for a start.  I’m looking forward to getting up close and personal with this item and getting all familiar with the transparent figure.  I am particularly interested in seeing how the jaw activation system works.

Keep an eye out for these updates.

Q&A with Super7’s Brian Flynn.

Super7’s latest ALIENS tribute figure was released this past Halloween and it’s glorious.  At 18 inches of fluorescent transparent green from head to tail tip, this item is a welcome addition to a long line of figures inspired by the original 1979 Kenner Products ALIEN action figure.

I’ve been fortunate enough to catch up with Brian Flynn, owner of Super7 and ask him a few questions about this new addition to the long standing legacy of ALIEN action figures.

Not only was Brian kind enough to answer questions regarding the new lime coloured figure but he was also prepared to divulge answers to other inquiries such as ALIEN Wave 3 ReAction figures, play sets and well, some terrific reveals regarding what we can expect in the future of Super7’s ALIENS licence.

You can read my Questions & Answers session with Brian right now.

Super7 1986 Acid Green ALIENS Warrior Now Available.

Our 18 inch tall Kenner inspired lime flavoured friend is now available from Super7’s online store.  The price is what I expected it to be, US$195.  Somewhat expensive, I say; but we just have to suck it up.  Gah.

Here’s what Super7 have to say about it: “The imagined successor to the 1979 Kenner Alien toy.  Fully articulated with glow accents, metallic snapping jaws (operated with a trigger on the back of the head like the original 1979 toy), and retro style packaging that includes a double-sided 11″x17″ poster.  The figure stands 18-inches and can also hang from its tail like the original 1979 Alien figure.”

“Glow accents” …hmmm…  I’m not so sure about that.  I suspect someone at Super7 might like to amend their copy & paste description.

All the same, I’m looking forward to seeing mine arrive.  Let’s see how long it takes for this bad ass booger boy to get to Australia!

Supercast No. 7: Brian Flynn Talks Acid Green Alien.

Super7 have revealed in Episode 7 of their Supercast on YouTube a number of Halloween reveals and exclusive updates. Amongst all the Misfits and Masters of the Universe items becoming available soon, Brian Flynn also demonstrates Super7’s upcoming 18 inch tall clear Acid Green Xenomorph.

It’s a beauty!  Not a lot of details but it will probably be available around Halloween and will most likely cost US$199 from their online store.  That’s the price point Super7’s previous ALIENS figures in this range have sold so that’s what I’m expecting.  There’s a couple more screen grabs after the break. Super7 Teases Some More Transparent Goodness.

Another image posted on Instagram shows off a close up of what appears to be the torso of Super7’s upcoming transparent iteration of their 18 inch Kenner inspired 1986 ALIENS figure.

Once again, there’s not a lot to go on here.  Except it looks like the figure is going to be green, much like the recent ‘Acid Green’ blind box ReAction Alien figure Super7 released earlier this year – except substantially larger.

Green is good.

[UPDATE] I just found out this item – whatever it is exactly – will be “Arriving on 10.31.17”.  The 31st of October, for those who live outside the US like I do, that’s Hallowe’en.

REVIEWED: Unofficial ReAction Figure Guide.

Occasionally I like to review more than just toys.  Sometimes – not often – I like to take a peek into books about toys.  Today, under the spotlight for evaluation is the Unofficial ReAction Figure Guide.

Super7 has been prolific of late, they’ve been driving force behind the Retro Action figure RenAissance in 3.75 inch toys with their ReAction figure line up.  ReAlly?  Yes.  ReAlly.  Now some clever dude has written a book about these small scale collectible toys.  ReAd the HIDEOUS PLASTIC review of the Unofficial ReAction Figure Guide right here.

RemAin ReAssured it’s a ReAlly good ReAd.  lol. 🙂

REVIEWED: Super7 Blind Box ReAction Aliens.

ALIEN ReAction figures?  Too much of a good thing?  Had enough of this stuff, already?  Wait!  Here’s 3 more for you to collect.  The good folk at Super7 know we love these things so they keep cranking ’em out.  So here they are, the ReAction SPACE VILLAIN series blind box ALIEN figures.

Just like Ridley Scott keeps cranking out new ALIEN movies, these items will either be a welcome addition to your life; or you’ll moan and sigh from over-exposure.

This is the 2nd article in a series; and for this piece of work, let’s find out if these things are any good.  Find out in this review.

The Curious History of ALIEN ReAction Figures.

During the next weeks I’ll be looking into ALIEN ReAction figures in a series of articles.  It’s appropriate then that we start at the beginning and focus on the history of the Alien figure itself, delving into the fascinating world of prototypes and find out what makes them significant

A series of 3 written items appearing on this site explores different aspects of these popular 1970s themed ALIEN retro action figures.  This first article explores their origin and unfortunate conditions that curtailed their development in the late 1970s, how they were kept concealed from public scrutiny for decades; and their eventual phoenix-like rise from the ashes of ambiguity.

We now have more details regarding the previously teased Super7 powerloader and Queen Alien M.U.S.C.L.E. figures.  It turns out this will be a San Diego Comic Con exclusive 2 pack.  Details below.

Super7 Teases ALIENS M.U.S.C.L.E. Figures at SDCC 2017

This teaser image dropped in my inbox this morning and like all things plastic and ALIEN it goes straight on the front page here.  Super7 is continuing their ALIENS range and what we have here looks like it could be a pair of ALIENS themed M.U.S.C.L.E. figures.  These items were previously on display at Toy Fair 2017, earlier this year.

Will this be a San Diego Comic Con 2017 exclusive?  …or will it be a general release item blister packaged on a card?  …or in a box like their previous Queen vs Ripley ReAction figure powerloader set.?  We don’t know just yet but SDCC 2017 is happening at the end of this month so we’ll find out soon enough.

Q&A with Nic Durham, Author of The Unofficial ReAction Figure Guide Book.

A new book about those popular 3.75 inch tall Super7 toys we’ve been seeing all over the place during the past few years is about to be released this month.  ReAction Figures – Unofficial Action Figure Guide, 2013-2016 is a full color guide book by UK author, Nic Durham.

Nic was kind enough to put aside some time to provide some insight into the production of this publication.  You can read his answers to my questions.

Unofficial ReAction Figure Book Nears Completion.

Author, Nic Durham has posted a video of his upcoming ReAction figure book.  The book is currently in development and in the final stages of preparation with proof copy currently being assessed by the Author.

Here’s a Facebook video of the book’s contents.  This does look neat – even if it represents only half of what the finished publication will look like.  There’s a ton of work on show here and I wish Nick all the success in the world for this ambitious Project.  Fab!

Super7 Reveal 5 Inch Vinyl Psychedelic Alien Queen.

Better put your favorite Pink Floyd LP on the turn table for this one.  Vinyl, of course. Speaking of vinyl, Super7 have announced their new 5 inch tall ‘Psychedelic Terror Queen Alien’ figure will be available at this weekend’s Five Points Festival (May 20-21) in New York City.

The lurid red and purple vinyl cast figure will be exclusive to the event.  So if you want one, turn up.  Optionally, keep an eye on Super7’s online store as any remaindered stock (if Continue reading

ALIEN Day Goodies: Super 7 Blind Box Aliens.

Super7 have have announced their new Blind Box variants of their popular ReAction ALIEN figure will be available on April 26.  Which is today… or tomorrow depending on what part of the globe you live on.  Availability, however won’t be possible until noon PST.  Whatever that means.  I live in Australia and it’s almost noon 4/26, already.  Not that it means anything to anyone else.

Anyway.  You can order them online sometime soon. Say, in about 24 hours time from their Super7 Webstore.  Looks like there’s going to be just the 3 variants we have already Continue reading

TEARDOWN: Super7 ALIENS 18 Inch Figure.

My third and final investigation into Super7’s recently released 18 inch tall ‘1986 ALIENS Classic Toy Edition’ action figure is now posted.  This article is a complete teardown of the figure, the likes of which you won’t see anywhere else.

Onoes!  I took it apart!  Obviously, squeamish purists and pussy pants Collectors who believe such collectibles shouldn’t even be removed from their box are recommended to avert their sensitive gaze as we comprehensively gut this figure and closely examine its interior.  Let’s find out what it had for breakfast.

COMPARED: Kenner & Super7

The recently released Super7 ‘1986 Classic Toy Edition’ ALIENS action figure is very cool.  It’s basically a reissue of the the older vintage Kenner toy and that alone makes it very welcome.  How does the older figure compare to the new one?

Let’s find out, shall we?  In this article we will explore exactly just that.  Here for your personal pleasure, perverted purpose or plain posterity is an article exploring these figures side by side.
