Prototype Gallery Update: Acid Alien.

Today we have another update in our Gallery of work in progress samples of old Kenner ALIEN figures.  This time it’s a tailless test shot of the 1998 ALIENS Hive Wars Acid Alien.

We’ve already posted images of another prototype of this figure so this one makes the 2nd sample of this particular Alien.  It is pretty cool and I do love the ALIEN 3 influence that’s prominent with this figure.

Check out the 2nd prototype for Kenner/Hasbro’s 1998 Acid Alien

Special thanks go to Scott Morrissey for this round of images.

Shameless Self Promotion Opportunity. Hah! Let’s do it.

News is always a little sparse this time of year – and last year was a bumper crop with all that ALIEN Covenant stuff happening as well.  So I’m taking this opportunity to promote this feature on HIDEOUS PLASTIC.

Yep.  It’s the 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure gallery.  All 12 figures are represented on these pages.  That includes the original figure from 1979 and all the derivative and tribute figures released since then.  Some as recently as 2017 – and as we already know, another one is coming.  Most likely to be released this year.

Check out the 1979 Kenner ALIEN gallery!  It’s one of this site’s great features.  It consists of a dozen pages featuring dozens of photos and product information on Kenner, Tsukuda Hobby, Halcyon, Gentle Giant and Super7 versions of the classic action figure.

Wild Boar ALIENS Samples added to Prototype Gallery.

Our first additions to this site’s Prototype Gallery for the New Year happens to be a pair of  1994 Wild Boar Alien samples.  Also included in today’s post is an orthographic technical drawing of the figure showing side, front and top elevations.  A very revealing and welcome document providing insight into design aspects of how these figures were made.

I’d like to thank Steve Dwyer once again for his preparedness to share images and information of his latest acquisitions with us all.  It’s greatly appreciated – and I’m sure you will get a buzz out it as well.

Go check out the images and information regarding this plastic beast.

I’m always on the look out to showcase more Kenner ALIEN figure prototypes produced from 1979 to the end of last Century.  There’s plenty more out there; and if you own such an item and would be interested in contributing images to a growing visual documentation of content, then please contact me.  I only post images where I have permission to do so.  It’s all part of my policy to respect the wishes of all the contributors who have helped make the Prototype Gallery the eclectic area of the site it is today.  Thanks Guys!

Prototype Gallery Update No.4 – 1997, Newborn.

Photos of a prototype of the 1997 Kenner (Hasbro) ALIEN: Resurrection Newborn action figure have been added to the Prototype Gallery.

Thank you, Adam ‘Proto_hoarder’ Saker, for permitting the use of the photos on the page dedicated to this prototype sample.

This is the last of this batch of updates for the prototype gallery for now; and some terrific items have been added with this Round with the generous assistance of Steve Dwyer and Adam ‘Proto_hoarder’ Saker.  I hope to post some more images of Kenner ALIEN prototypes again soon.  Right now, all the images can easily be viewed from the link found on the PROTOTYPE FIGURE GALLERY menu item on the sidebar to the right; or you can  follow this link.

If you have any such figures in your possession and would like to see them appear on HIDEOUS PLASTIC, a site that respectfully showcases these figures, please contact me.  windebieste@hideousplastic.com and we can arrange to have images of them posted with appropriate credit and details.  I refuse to post such content without appropriate permission from the people who own them.  Thank you.

Prototype Gallery Update No.3 – 1994, Action Masters Queen.

For today’s hat trick of prototype gallery updates we have a sample for a figure already represented in our gallery.  This is the 2nd version of the Queen Alien making it an addition to an existing page dedicated to the die cast Action Masters figure.

Nonetheless, it’s a unique item in its own right and we’re proud and excited to have it represented on our pages. Kenner Queen Alien prototype – too awesome!

Thank you Steve Dwyer for permission to use images in this gallery entry.

Prototype Gallery Update No.2 – 1994, Kenner AvP Alien

I’m very pleased to present our 2nd addition to the prototype figure gallery for today.  Here is the 1994, Kenner (Hasbro) AvP Alien.

The very first ALIENS vs PREDATOR action figures were released by Kenner in 1994 in a neat 2 pack.  This particular figure also enjoyed later release in 1996 as the blue Warrior Alien – Vicious Alien Attacker! in 1996.  Go check it out.

Thank you Steve Dwyer for the use of images for this gallery item.

Prototype Gallery Update – 1998 Acid Alien.

The Prototype Gallery continues to grow and I have a number of updates coming in the next day or so.  Here’s the first one.  It’s pretty cool, too.

Go check it out!

The 1998, Kenner (Hasbro) Acid Alien Attack Warrior was Inspired by the creature seen in ALIEN 3, this item was designed in the mid 1990’s but didn’t see production until 1998 to be released as part of Kenner’s final ALIEN action figure range, ALIENS: Hive wars.

I’d like to thank Adam ‘Proto_hoarder’ Saker for the permission to use his images and making this contribution.

Dallas Mock Up Card Added to the Prototype Gallery

Yet another set of images of a unique item graces our ever expanding gallery of prototype and production items.  This time around we have a mock up backing card of Kenner’s Dallas action figure from their cancelled and unproduced 3.75 inch range of ALIEN action figures.

This card may possibly be the only one of its type still existing.  It is certainly one of the oldest known work in progress samples of such packaging for Kenner’s ALIEN range of products.

Thank you Steve Dwyer for contributing information and images of this item to be used in the gallery.  This item is a true gem.

Don’t forget to check out the other amazing relics and unique items to be found in the HIDEOUS PLASTIC Prototype Gallery.  If you own any production samples or prototype items like those being showcased on that page, let me know and I’ll add it to the gallery.  Full credit will be recognised and I don’t/won’t post items without permission from owners, either.

Check Out Our Awesome Gallery!

I haven’t posted anything for a few days, so I may as well promote one of this site’s features.  The Gallery section visually documents all the action figures based on the original Kenner ALIEN toy released in 1979.

Along with multiple photo images of at least 10 derivatives of this figure, you will find other details and information including manufacturers, dates and dimensions.  It’s an all Continue reading

1992 Kenner ALIENS Action Figure Comic Scans.

Here’s a set of scans for 13 issues of Dark Horse’ mini ALIENS comics that accompanied select items from Kenner’s 1992 range of ALIENS action figures.

These 16 page mini comics featured coloured in line drawn artwork of characters based on toys and action figures from Kenner’s range of ALIENS merchandise released during the 1990s. They were exclusively included with this line of toys.

Very grateful to Marc Cawiezel for providing the scans of these items.

Now Home Recovering.

Surgery went well and I am now at home.  Recovery looks like it will be a slow and tiring few weeks ahead of me while stumbling around on crutches.  I am improving daily.

Nonetheless, amidst this nagging fatigue propped up by medication and pain killers, I have had enough energy today to add a simple page to the Gallery section of the site outlining details of the ‘1991 Phantom Kenner ALIEN action figure’A dubious item that actually never existed but persists due to misinformation.  This often mistakenly identified Kenner item is frequently confused with other loose derivative figures date stamped 1991.

Happy 37th Anniversary, Ugly Old Friend.

I should have posted this yesterday, but still, it’s not too late.  37 years ago I received my very first Kenner Products ALIEN action figure on Christmas Day.  I’d seen the movie just weeks previously on its opening night in Melbourne on December the 6th.  The movie must have impressed me a lot because my mother bought me this thing.  I remember it was the last unwrapped present still sitting under the Christmas tree at the rear that hadn’t been claimed by anyone.  It turned out  my name was on the little card attached to it.  Of course, this is what was inside:

Obviously I still have it and it’s one of the the few possessions that’s been with me throughout my adult life and it has miraculously survived all kinds of upheaval and drama since I left my parents home, some 30 years ago.  Yeah.  I still have it, Ma. Thank you for this!

Now, at the tail end of 2016, I have so many of these things, I’m not really certain of how many I actually own.  One thing for sure, It’s the one Christmas gift the passing of time has not managed to erase from either my life or my memory.  Happy 37th Anniversary, ugly old toy!

Added: 1995 Tsukuda Hobby Completed Model Image Gallery.

For the 6th entry into the Hideous Plastic image Gallery, I present to you the 17 inch tall 1995 Tsukuda Hobby Completed Model.

This is one of the lesser known iterations of the family of figures derived from the original 1979 Kenner ALIEN action toy.  There’s nothing substantially remarkable about it and it certainly won’t win any prizes.  Nonetheless,  this relatively uncommon and little known pressing contributes to the increasing number of models and figures based on the original item in its own way.

Added: 1991 Halcyon ALIEN Model Kit Gallery.

I’ve added the 2nd image Gallery to the site. This set of images captures the Halcyon model kit.  This item was released in 1991 and was the 3rd iteration of the Kenner figure to be released.

This selection of images – along with all future Galleries I will be adding at a later date – will be available under ‘Collated Works’ in the drop down Menu just below the banner above.  Keep an eye out for these upcoming image collections!

“ALIEN TERROR” Movie Viewer Content Reconstruction.

Along with the 18 inch tall action figure, Kenner Products released a board game and a hand held movie viewer in 1979. The movie viewer features a grey casing and a white manual crank handle mechanism.  It was distributed with a single removable red 8mm movie clip cartridge.  The ALIEN cartridge contains a condensed 1 minute version of the movie titled, “ALIEN TERROR”.
