Several loose body parts from a tear down of an original 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy are now available on eBay. These are being sold in three separate lots. (1) A right arm. (2) A lot featuring a variety of various body parts and (3) A pair of torso halves. It will be handy to purchase these loose items if you’re after them to complete a figure of your own; but very few parts on offer are actually in desirable condition. All three lots are being auctioned. The right arm being offered appears to be in good shape. The neoprene anchor is still attached and unbroken. No fingers are missing and the elbow spur is present. That’s a great start and this piece will definitely be purchased by someone who is missing this part. Kenner ALIEN toys missing either arm are commonplace and this piece will no doubt have great appeal to a new owner who will give it a new home, right where it belongs. Continue reading

eBay – Kenner ALIEN Poster for Sale.
I’ve seen a few of these vintage Kenner ALIEN toy posters being listed on eBay recently. Here’s another one. This one is being auctioned by the seller. Bidding started at US$20. Currently, one bidder has already expressed a desire to own this forty year old B&W printed inclusion for a toy that nobody wanted at the time. It’s a little dog eared and slightly creased but this poster is still in very good condition considering its age. Nonetheless, such a low starting price is important. Bidders will escalate the selling price well above it’s current value. This is inevitable. During the past month or so, there’s been around four of these listed on eBay. Each one has been listed for around US$200 and then sold for around that much. How much will this item sell is anyone’s guess; but right now, it’s a safe bet it will easily top the triple figure mark. Importantly, this item will demonstrate the true value of these forty year old posters as bidders determine what it’s worth – not the seller under these auction conditions. This will be a fun item to watch.

eBay – Kenner ALIEN Poster for Sale.
This is it! This is the one you want! Buy it now! This vintage B&W poster was originally packaged with the nefarious Kenner ALIEN toy back in 1979. It can be yours now for the measly sum of only US$275. CHEAP! lol. Certainly US$275 is mighty steep but the seller may accept a Best Offer. Make sure it’s in triple figures, though. This won’t sell for less than that. This is the real deal, alright. Mind you, these do crop up from time to time and there’s been a few of them appearing on eBay lately. One appeared recently and was sold while I was in the process of was writing up a News item about it. That was pretty funny, actually. Continue reading
Investigating Kenner’s Arachnid Alien.
Over at the Kenner ALIENS Toy Blog, you can now find a lengthy and detailed investigation into the released (and unreleased) color variants of Kenner’s Arachnid Alien toy, released in 1994. Eric Fischer has had a 25 year long interest in this “wacky Arachnid Alien” toy, ever since it was first released. The article is well worth the read and if you are interested in this toy line, you’ll find it informative and rewarding.
As an additional component to further explore this curious multilegged oddity, we have a page dedicated to exploring some of the early product development prototype samples that lead to this toy’s release.
It’s been two and a half decades since this toy was released but have we seen the end of the Arachnid Alien? It’s hard to say. With both NECA and Eaglemoss releasing tribute items dedicated to other Kenner Alien toys of the 1990s, an updated version of this strange may yet see release. I gotta say, a fully articulated NECA Arachnid Alien is highly appealing.

eBay – Box and Poster for Sale.
There’s a pair of very interesting listings individually available on eBay right now. Both are 1979 vintage Kenner ALIEN items. For your consideration is an original box and a loose poster inclusion. No toy is present in either sale and these items are being sold separately for US$250 each. The B&W poster and instruction sheet was included with the Kenner ALIEN toy when it was originally sold back in the late 70s and early 80s. This sample shows some wrinkles, creases and print wear. It’s still a great item in its own right but at US$250 is definitely a tall order. At least it’s complete, if not perfect.
The same cannot be said for the original box packaging available as a separate listing. Torn, beaten up and showing obvious crush damage, this item is also deficient in other ways. Gone are both window panes that should be present in both the top and front of the box; along with an absence of the red insert card the ALIEN toy would normally have been fastened to when it was new. Three feature components missing from this four decades old package makes it look like it’s survived being struck by a bus and severely reduces the value of this item.
While Kenner ALIEN boxes and posters are highly sought after by collectors, these are both clearly listed at the high end of the pricing scale – especially as neither can make claims regarding being in excellent condition. The poster is good, sure; but that box! Wow! US$25! Nonetheless, empty ALIEN boxes do sell for hundreds of dollars and the seller has included an option for Best Offer. It will sell. It may not sell for the listed price but give it time and someone will purchase it. Incomplete. Battered. Torn. It won’t matter.

Kenner “Exploding” Alien Explored.
There’s an article published on the The Kenner Aliens Toy Blog that investigates the ancestry of the classic 1990s Scorpion Alien’s practical and dynamic “exploding” action feature of the toy.Widely regarded as the most screen accurate version of the Xenomorph warrior appearing in Kenner’s 1990s range of ALIENS toys, the Scorpion Alien was also one of the most popular. Here’s a snippet from the blog article, all good reading: “It’s a fine example of balance between form & function, aesthetic & practicality. One of the best & most popular figures from the line, this figure perfectly captures the look of the creatures as seen in Aliens.” It’s a fun read and a fascinating insight into how Kenner would repurpose an already extant action feature design, hone it to perfection and produce one of the true classic ALIENS toys ever made.
Thank you Eric Fischer for writing this article.

eBay – 1979 Kenner ALIEN for Sale. Only $400.
It no longer surprises me when a forty year old toy nobody wanted back in 1979 gets listed on eBay for US$400 and the first bid is tossed into the hat before the listing is so much as an hour old. check out this fine Kenner item now because this time next week this listing is history. He’s all there, too. Dome, shoulder crest and all mouth parts are present. A great and worthy addition to someone’s collection. No box or poster is included in the listing, though; and such inclusions usually set the starting bid at this price, around US$400. Nonetheless, this looks like a solid sample of the toy. Minor scuffs on the glow in the dark paintwork, some dusty surfaces here and there along with minor handling wear are all that detract from it’s otherwise excellent presentation. Prices have certainly been escalating on these old toys but it’s not unheard of for these vintage collectibles to sell for an excess of US$450 in similar condition, without a box. So if you can afford it, grab it! These things certainly aren’t reducing in value.

Kenner ALIEN Head and Tail for Sale.
If you’re looking for some replacement pieces for your 1979 vintage Kenner ALIEN toy, there’s a head and tail being auctioned on eBay right now. As such things are becoming increasingly uncommon, you might like to consider this. Bidding starts at US$100 for both pieces. It’s important to note this sale is accompanied by a “Good News and some Bad News” caveat. Firstly, the “good news”. The tail is in excellent condition with very little to no issues. Importantly, the blunt spiked tip of these pieces can be broken. This one is fully intact and that’s great. What’s just as important is the presence of the serrated metal washer attached to the other end of the tail. As this item is needed to fit the tail onto a figure, it’s inclusion here is very welcome – and uncommon – so it’s more than a bonus. Loose tails like this one for sale usually lack this metal ring. Having it included in the sale means the tail is easily attached to the figure without the need for any improvisation. I say that’s definitely “good news”. Continue reading
Prototype Gallery Update: Lt. Ripley.
It’s been some time since I’ve added any content to the section on this blog dedicated to ALIENS prototypes. What finer way to break the drought than add a first shot version of Kenner’s 1992 ALIENS action figure, Space Marine Lt. Ripley? This fascinating late production hand painted sample sans COO and copyright is now added to this page. I’d like to thank Caesar V. Jacquez for kind permission to publish these photos. I’m always looking to post more prototype items to document on HIDEOUS PLASTIC. If you would like to share such items and have images added to this significant repository of Kenner ALIEN(S) action figure prototypes online, please contact me.

“Hasbro” ALIEN Toy For Sale.
Wanting to get your hands on a reasonably priced Kenner ALIEN toy in average condition? For sale on eBay right now is a perfect example of what you can expect one of these toys to be in. A few commonly missing pieces sets the starting bid at a relatively low US$150. Just completely disregard the seller’s claim this was made by Hasbro. It’s true Hasbro did own Kenner Products at some point but that ownership transfer from Tonka didn’t occur till late in Kenner’s life, in 1992. It happened long, long after these toys were produced in 1979. Sadly, Hasbro was the final owner of Kenner and the world renowned toy maker would eventually be closed by Hasbro in 2000. Boo. Hiss. Hasbro. You shut down an institution that gave joy to several generations of children.
Anyway, this sample of ye olde Kenner ALIEN toy is in good average condition. It’s lacking the commonly missing parts. That is, it’s missing the head dome, shoulder crest and the upper half of its tongue. Despite these pieces lacking in the toy, the rest of it is all there. Not only are the arms present, but they are attached, which is always great. The head paint is in nice shape, the legs and tail aint broke. Sure. It’s a little dusty and scratched here and there but in such played with condition, there’s no doubting it’s going to be a welcome addition to any prospective new owner’s collection. If you don’t wanna bother with the hassle of bidding for this articulated grey styrene cast bundle of joy, there’s a buy now option of US$220. Cheap. lol.
But seriously, this item won’t last long and once bidding commences, the final value on this vintage toy may yet exceed the “buy now” price currently being offered.

Incomplete Kenner ALIEN for Sale.
One of the great fun things about observing the sales of vintage 1979 Kenner ALIEN toys is how the prices are climbing dramatically. This one being auctioned on eBay right now has a starting bid of US$750. You may feel that’s a high starting price, you’d be correct.Nonetheless, as the demand for these old toys continues unabated price rises can be expected. What’s unexpected is how many of these discontinued toys were made back in 1979 and still survive to be sold on secondary markets like eBay more than forty years later. This one is missing its head dome, it is dusty and is incomplete. It doesn’t even include a box or poster. At least it has all of its mouth parts in situ and the ever elusive dorsal crest mounted between its shoulders is present. …but starting a bid at US$750?! Yeah. That’s kind of an astonishing expectation and I will be surprised if it actually sells for that impressive amount. Complete figures in boxes sell for around that price – and that’s considered cheap not loose, dusty samples missing one of the critical parts that actually makes these old toys valuable. Then again, as I like to say about these old figures, there is nothing normal about this toy. So who knows? In all actuality, it’s only worth what it gets sold for.

Kenner ALIEN and Poster for Sale.
Looking for a near complete, good condition Kenner ALIEN? One is for sale right now on eBay for the Royal sum of US$650. Of course if that’s too much to be accommodated by your financial situation, the seller is seeking a Best Offer on this item. It appears to be a decent piece, a little dusty but easily cleaned with some warm soapy water and an old toothbrush. Mind you, the head dome is missing and the glow in the dark paint work appears to display minor scuff marks. Significantly, the provided photographic material doesn’t reveal if the frequently damaged slot on the figure’s back is whole or not. Nonetheless, we have been assured by the seller this old toy still “Has big back spine accessories.” If you plan to purchase this item, make sure you inquire about how well that valuable albeit frequently absent item is in situ and whether it’s an original piece. There’s a poster included in the sale, too. You might like to ask about it’s authenticity. No box is included. It’s a solid average piece and probably won’t remain listed for long once offers are made.

Mostly ‘armless Kenner ALIEN for Sale. Mostly.
Here’s an ideal project if you are inclined to be creative and want to take part in the joy of restoring one of these vintage ALIEN toys. This item is for sale right now on eBay. Bidding starts at US$249.99 for this incomplete and broken old toy. He’s almost all there and only missing the dome that sits loose upon the head. He’s still in some need of repair as both arms are broken from the figure and need to be re-attached. It’s not a hard task, actually. I’ve done it many times. Take the figure apart, slap a 3mm bungee cord inside the torso and voila! he’s all fixed. Done. OK, so there’s a few additional steps required but it’s an easy repair. The dorsal crest is also provided and can be re-attached. Jam a piece of foam rubber in with the pegs to hold it in place works wonders and can’t be any simpler. Right now, US$250 is a reasonable price for this item. Grab him and make him whole once again.
By the way, here’s a method I like to use to get those severed arms back where they belong. Have fun with this figure, whoever has the joy of landing it. It’s an ideal candidate for repair and subsequent display.

Complete Kenner ALIEN Toy for Sale.
Here’s another one of those lurid Kenner ALIEN toys that didn’t sell very well at retail outlets forty years ago. This complete specimen is for sale on eBay for US$600 (or make Best Offer). He’s a lovely sample, too. Complete with all parts present and only minor scuffs here and there along some dust that mar his otherwise “perfect composure”. The dust can be cleaned off with some some warm water, mild detergent and a toothbrush. The value is all there! That is, if you think US$600 is an appropriate price for a grotesque toy that was discounted to under US$5 in order to clear unwanted stock nobody wanted and wouldn’t sell in 1980. No box, poster or small child unable to sleep at night included. Make an offer.

Incomplete Kenner ALIEN for sale.
Here’s a nice, average condition Kenner ALIEN toy for sale. Missing the dome but otherwise complete and being auctioned on eBay right now. Bidding starts at US$300.He appears to be a little dusty and worn about the edges. Certainly, his glow in the dark head paint appears to be worn and the legs are likely to be very loose as a display stand is required to hold the figure upright. His arms have been re-stringed but his mouth parts are fully functional and all of his appendages are present on his back. This is a reasonable and average condition vintage toy but this is a high starting price for a figure that is incomplete and clearly a long way from optimum condition. This is a price you would expect to see on Kenner ALIEN toys in a substantially better condition. Nonetheless, prices on these old toys have been climbing dramatically of late and US$300 may yet become the new benchmark for incomplete and used Kenner ALIEN toys. Will this fellow sell at US$300? It only takes one bid to flag it as Sold.

Kenner ALIEN “Still” in Box for Sale.
Here’s something you have to be super careful about if you are considering purchasing one of these vintage ALIEN toys in a box. They can appear on eBay mounted inside the box and fastened to the red insert support card. Frequently, such samples of the toy are also opened. Like this one currently for sale on eBay for US1999.99. We need to take a closer look at this item. One of the attractions here is the claim this figure is fastened to the insert card and being held in situ by zip ties. This can mean the figure has never been removed from its box and as such can considerably ramp up the value of the toy. What about figures that have been removed from their box and then fastened back in place with replacement zip ties, is the toy still valuable? Sure. But it also means the figure has been removed from the box and as such it is considerably reduced in value.
That’s the issue on display here. This figure is being held in place with replacement ratchet style zip ties rather than the original laddered variety that Kenner used to package the figure and is proof this sample has been removed from its box. The third image shows you what a figure that has never been removed from the box with the zip ties holding it in place look like. What’s this vintage ALIEN worth, then? Certainly not US2,000, that’s for sure. It’s still a good pick up at half that price but at two Grand, you can expect to purchase an undisturbed figure in original box that has never been opened at all; and we also know this figure has been outside of its box due the dust that has collected on it. Beware of sales like this one.

Kenner ALIEN for Sale.
Here’s a great example of the 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy being sold on eBay. How much can you expect to pay for this wonderful and greatly sought after item? How does US$975? er… wut? Is there a box? No. Does it come with a poster. No. Well, then… Is it cast in gold or was it found among other treasures of a recently discovered Pharaoh’s tomb? er… no. It’s just a loose forty year old ALIEN toy. So, why the high price on this listing? This is one of those examples where the very canny seller on eBay has realised people might pay any amount of money to own one of these toys. So, he’s listed it for a ridiculous price and added Make Best Offer option to the sale. The “best offer” option is significant because he’ll keep the item listed until he receives the amount he feels will be the highest he will get. Patience is the game here. It’s a selling technique that functions a little like an auction, but without the timer. Surely, this item will eventually sell and the person making the highest offer will score this prize. How much will it actually sell for? Only the parties involved in the transaction will ever really know as the sale will only reflect a “best offer accepted” acknowledgement along with the original listed price.
Condition is very good. A few minor issues and blemishes mar its presentation, like the chipped chrome on the teeth. Otherwise, it’s complete with original parts even if it is showing its age a little. A nice piece but remember: it’s only worth what it gets sold for.

Average Condition ALIEN for Sale.
Here’s a 1979 Kenner ALIEN for sale on eBay, missing common parts. Gone are the head dome, the dorsal crest and his upper tongue half. These parts are frequently missing from samples of the toy when they’re found in the wild. What remains here though, is a solid figure with all other features in place. He’s a little worn around the edges and his glow in the dark paint shows some scuff marks but his average condition still makes this sample a good, welcome find for someone. Figures in this condition are relatively common and frequently appear on eBay. They can sell for any price, typically starting around the US$100 mark. Despite this being the case, the US$325 price tag on this item is somewhat high and is usually expected on complete figures. On the other hand, prices on these forty year old toys have been climbing. It’s nothing new.
What is astounding is the frequency these erroneously perceived “rare” old toys appear on eBay. Is someone just selling the same old toy, over and over again? Sometimes it may feel like it, but nay. Kenner made a lot of these things. Estimates put the production number at around 150,000 units. Possibly more. Such a high number pushed out to the world has ensured there’s always a constant supply of Kenner ALIEN toys being unearthed. It’s been four decades since these vintage toys were released in October 1979 and yet, an endless stream of them is always appearing. This is just one more.
