NECA Reveals ALIEN Resurrection Queen Alien Package.

Facehugger Friday once again brings a welcome reveal from NECA on Facebook. Once again they are blessing us with final packaging for merchandise in their upcoming ALIEN Resurrection line. This time, it’s their new deluxe variant of the Queen Alien in a stunning windowed box presentation. Isn’t she beautiful..?

While this item isn’t expected to be a completely screen accurate version of the Queen from the movie (unless it includes an external uterus accessory) it is expected to be an updated brown version of their previously released excellent Queen Alien. We shall see.

This is what NECA have to say about this imminently released item “Get ready for more Aliens this summer. The Alien: Resurrection Deluxe Queen Action Figure is packed up and will be ready to ship out to retailers in the coming week!”

eBay – 18 Inch ALIEN(S) Action Figures for Sale. (Part 2)

Following on from yesterday’s post regarding a pair of 18 inch ALIEN action figures for sale, here’s another listing of similar items on eBay. There are some significant differences to be noted in this pair of Kenner and Super7. Yes. They are more or less different samples of the same items in my previous post but the differences in the asking price is around US$900. Why is that? Are they worth the asking price? Let’s check it out.

This pair of figures includes boxes for both and in the case of the Super7 ALIENS figure, it looks like it’s not been opened. That’s very welcome but as the figure can be purchased new for US$175 directly from the manufacturer, its value is somewhat limited. The 40 year old Kenner item has its fair share of degradation and that’s understandable albeit unfortunate. These boxes were intended to be ephemeral and not last for 4 decades. So wear & tear, creases sticky tape repairs, other deformations and other common problems present on this box are the norm. Is it worth US$1000, though? Not really. Continue reading →

eBay – 18 Inch ALIEN(S) Action Figures for Sale.

These ALIEN(S) action figures are for sale right now as a pair for US$400 on Ebay. They’re both different items separated by more than 3 decades. One is an original 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure missing it’s dome (Right); and the other item is a Super7 tribute figure, the Classic Toy Edition, released in 2017 (Left). Let’s see if these items are worth the asking price the vendor has listed them for. Let’s start with the Kenner item first. eBay – 1979 Kenner ALIEN Poster for Sale.

UPDATE: Sold for US$113.25.

Oh, look! It’s an original 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure poster for sale. Wait… didn’t this sell recently? Sure it did; but that was a different sample, this newly listed item is being sold by another vendor. It’s a poster, printed on both sides in B&W.

This 40 year old poster inclusion for an old toy isn’t in as good condition as the previous similar item that sold recently. It appears the corners may have minor creasing and other imperfections. Nonetheless, the vendor wants US$100 for it. You may think this is a copycat sale with the vendor hoping to duplicate the success of the previous seller.

Nope. Maybe, well maybe to a degree; but it’s not necessarily the case. Loose and without a box or the figure, it’s the standard rate for these things. Around US$100 is about right. I’ll be watching this sale with interest. I always do. It will be interesting to see how many people bid on it and how much it sells for.

RUMOR – NECA’s Upcoming Kenner Rhino ALIENS Figure.

Word from the NECA Fan Event from this past weekend in New Jersey carries the good news that NECA’s next Kenner tribute figure will be the 1993 Rhino Alien. This news is also accompanied by details the figure will be larger than the usual 7 inch ALIEN items NECA have released to date. While not as big as their Queen Alien, it will probably scale well with other figures in that range. Here’s the original 4 inch toy made by Kenner, late last Century.

Also rumored to be in the works is a new ALIEN corridor diorama piece with working lights and is anticipated to be released next year. On top of that, comes the welcome News the long awaited Batman vs Joker Alien 2 pack is still heading our way.

While this is all rumor right now, it comes directly from the event itself and may be as accurate as it can get – so now we just wait for official announcements on these items. I would like to thank Joshua Ambrosius and Eric Christian Magee for the alert on these potentially upcoming items.

A large scale Rhino Alien figure? Fantastic! I have to admit it’s an exciting prospect and if NECA do decide to make a Bull Alien, I am hoping it too will be a larger than standard figure that scales well with the other NECA ALIEN stuff. I’ll be posting more News regarding these NECA items as it becomes available.

UPDATED – Bootlegs, Knock Offs and Other ‘Illegal Aliens’.

Finally got around to adding these 2 delightful critters to the page dedicated to some very strange ALIEN Knock Off action figures. Here for your enjoyment are a pair of new entries dedicated to Bandai’s 1994 Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Pyther toy and Galoob’s 1995 UltraForce NM-E Ultra Villain figure. Great stuff!

This pair was purchased at the recent Oz Comic Con in Melbourne and I was completely stoked to have found them at decent prices despite both of them lacking accessories. For my purpose here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC, they are perfect.

Go check ’em out along with an assortment of other weird ALIEN imitations and ring-ins.

NECA Reveals ALIEN Resurrection Newborn Package.

It’s ‘Facehugger Friday’ and we all know what that means… NECA have released images of their upcoming Deluxe Newborn Action Figure on Facebook. The figure is based on the creature that appears at the end of the Jean-Pierre Jeonot directed 1996 movie, ALIEN Resurrection.The larger than usual 11 inch tall figure looks to be packaged in a gatefolded windowed box and is expected to become available sometime next month. Here’s what NECA have to say about it: “The final packaging photos of the Newborn Alien from Alien: Resurrection are here! You can expect the Newborn to start shipping out to retailers in late July.”

1979 Kenner ALIEN Toy Poster SOLD!

That 40 year old poster from an old toy that nobody loved back in 1979 listed on eBay has been sold.

Listing commenced at US$99 and 2 people bid on the item with only 3 bids, closing the auction at US$159.50. Nonetheless, it’s astonishing that a double sided piece of paper can fetch such a high price. The poster isn’t even in colour. This is one of the higher prices I’ve seen one of these B&W inclusion sheets sell for.

I’m betting the vendor is pleased with this result. They previously sold a Kenner ALIEN box with no content for US$281. The combined value of the poster and empty box sold is US$440.50. This total didn’t even include the toy ALIEN figure that would normally be inside the box.

Expressed as local currency where I live in Australia, this value converts to AU$635.38. That figure is for combined value of an old empty box and a B&W printed piece of paper.

Prototype Gallery Update: Deadly Chest Hatchling.

Today we are pleased to add yet another fine example to our expanding section dedicated to Kenner prototype and production samples. This time it’s the curious accessory piece which was included with the 1992 Queen Alien action figure, the Deadly Chest Hatchling.

It may be small, at only 3 inches long, but it’s a fascinating little piece. Fortunately, we have been able to post images of a pair of samples of this accessory. A hardcopy piece and a first shot, both providing an an insight into the work intensive process of toy production.

NECA Release Images of ALIEN 3 Creature Pack.

It’s Facehugger Friday and NECA have released some images of packaging for their upcoming ALIEN 3 Creature Pack. This selection features the Juvenile Queen Alien had it been born, the Queen Facehugger and the juvenile Dog Alien (aka Bambi Burster). Also present in the package is Murphy’s rottweiler, Spike. Spike also features an alternate accessory head with scarring from his unfortunate off screen encounter with the Queen Facehugger. Very tasty stuff. Woof!

Here’s what NECA have to say about this soon to be released item “Happy #FacehuggerFriday! Here are the final packaging photos for our #Alien 3 Creature Pack, releasing in July.” What a great looking pack and it’s great to see ALIEN 3 continuing to get some love from NECA. BBTS Increases Price On Super7 Acid Green ALIEN.

Almost a week ago, Big Bad Toy Store discounted the price on their stock of Super7 ALIENS Acid Green Warrior figure by US$100, bringing the price of the tribute item down from US$174.99 to US$74.99. It appears BBTS have since realised their overly generous reduction on the item and raised the price by US$25 to US$99.99.

This is a totally kick ass piece and I reviewed it some time back here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC. Even at this increased price it’s still a killer item. I know quite a few people who’ve already dived onto the opportunity to purchase one at the lower price point. Now I’m wondering how many of these wonderful 18 inch translucent green ALIENS figures BBTS has remaining in stock. Even at this new price there’s a substantial saving to be had so they can’t have too many left – unless they are severely overstocked.

Get one now if you are remotely interested in purchasing it because you can bet once eBay scalpers catch wind of this great offer, you’ll be paying inflated prices elsewhere.

eBay – 1979 Kenner ALIEN Poster for Sale.

A few weeks back an empty Kenner ALIEN box and poster was listed for sale on eBay at a starting bid of US$400. They didn’t sell. The empty box (without the poster) was subsequently relisted and sold for almost US$300. The poster has now also reappeared.

Described as being in excellent condition, white with no tears you can bid on it now, starting at US$99. A one hundred dollar price tag on a forty year old two sided sheet of paper may seem to be a little steep so let’s see how long this item takes to sell on its own.

Don’t forget! Both sides of the poster are included in the sale. BARGAIN! 😉

eBay – 1979 Kenner ALIEN Action Figure Parts.

Listed right now for sale on eBay is a dismantled Kenner ALIEN toy. It’s not just disassembled, the head has been snapped away from the neck and the usual pieces – the dome and shoulder crest – are both missing. How much is this collection of dismembered 4 decades old blended styrene pieces actually worth?

Clearly the item included in the listing is well beyond being considered complete. You could re-assemble the figure and it will tidy up nicely. There’s a few special tasks needed to get the arms and head back onto the figure and maybe tighten up the legs; but when cleaned up, it would still be a great display item. Or, these same parts could be distributed among other ALIEN toys missing any of these parts. This will be a nice pick up for someone either way. Continue reading →

Oz Comic Con 2019 – Treasure Island.

I spent two days at Melbourne’s Oz Comic Con. Much of my first day was spent hunting for new ALIEN stuff – of which there wasn’t very much. Mind you, I documented what I did find on STUDIO YUTANI. The following day I was my own free agent and sought more intimately through random boxes of loose toys to seek anything I could find. Here are the results of my endeavours. My archeological excavations unearthed these Three Stooges.

The green character on the left is Pyther, a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers villain. Cast in green with a wonderful spring loaded tongue action feature, he’s a great four inch item made by Bandai in 1994. In the middle is another Bandai figure, the wonderfully sculpted Tamashii Nations MonsterArts ALIEN Big Chap. Third up is an Ultraforce NM-E Ultra Villain.

ToyArk – NECA Purple Alien Photo Shoot and Review.

Finally we have more details about the much anticipated ALIEN Club-X exclusive purple Alien action figure. ToyArk have posted a gallery of images and review of the item.

Along with the gallery of images, ToyArk also have this to say regarding its imminent availability “The figure has been delayed all through 2018. But I am happy to share some great news with fans who have been waiting for an update. By this Monday, June 10th, the Purple Alien Warrior will begin shipping to customers! ”

So if you are a member of Club-X promotional exercise and pre-ordered one of these lovely lady killer Aliens, it should be shipping very soon.

BBTS Heavily Discounts Super7 ALIENS Figures.

Big Bad Toy Store has some hefty discounts on their stock of Super7 ALIENS figures based on the old 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy. Significantly is the Acid Green ALIENS figure reduced from US$174.99 to US$74.99. A discount of US$100 is a substantial drop. Also reduced is the black Super7 Classic Toy Edition with glow in the dark accents on the head. This item has been reduced from US$174.99 to US$99.99. Also a significant savings. Get one of each! At these prices, you’re practically buying 2 for the price of one, especially considering on initial release each of these figures originally cost US$195 apiece.

eBay: How Rare is a 1979 Kenner ALIEN Toy, Anyway..?

When talking about the old 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure, the word ‘rare’ is often bandied about. Exactly, how rare is this 40 year old toy, anyway. Let’s see if we can shed some light onto how ‘rare’ this figure really is. The best place to start an investigation into this quandary is eBay.

First, this toy was produced in enormous quantities by Kenner who expected sales numbers to follow in the footsteps of their extremely popular 3.75 inch tall Star Wars toys they released the previous year. Kenner sold an estimated forty million pocket size Star Wars action figures in 1978 – exactly how many ALIEN toys they expected to sell is difficult to determine; but is forty million of them out of the question? Probably – but they certainly made this unconventional toy in a high volume and that’s indisputable. Any estimate is open to speculation and keeping the high number of forty million Star Wars toys in mind is going to be an important factor regardless of how many were actually made.

A new page has been added to the growing article on Bootleg ALIEN action figures. Subtitled Part 3: Unexplained Phenomena this new page is dedicated to anomalous ALIEN crossovers, mash-ups and other hybridised figures made by unlicenced manufacturers.

Much like the previous pages dedicated to bootleg items Part 1: Kenner Bootlegs and the equally strange Part 2: Imitation action figures, this new 3rd page is work in progress and I will continue to add content as it becomes available.

NECA Superman vs ALIENS SDCC Exclusive Revealed.

It looks like this year’s San Diego Comic Con (18-21 July) will be graced with NECA’s exclusive SUPERMAN vs ALIENS action figures. Bloody Disgusting has some great images of Krypton’s favourite son beating up on a dastardly space bug. All the comic book action you could ever want featuring the world’s greatest superhero and the galaxy’s most notorious space monster!

There’s a bunch of more images over at Bloody Disgusting. I suggest you go check ’em out. NECA has other SDCC exclusives as well including a meaty looking PREDATOR vs BATMAN 2 pack.

What’s more, it looks that BATMAN vs JOKER ALIEN that we saw being promoted a couple of years back and fell off the radar for a while looks like it will finally surface after all. That’s not surprising really, considering this SUPERMAN vs ALIENS 2 pack is not just confirmed but it’s release is happening, around 6 weeks away. Fantastic!
