Right now on eBay is an original 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy listed for auction. It appears to be complete but it does have a couple of problems. Not too many but his flaws mean he’s not in the greatest condition and does have one small caveat. Let’s take a look at this fellow.
Bidding starts at US$150 and the seller is offering the option to Buy Now at US$250. Not a bad deal despite the deficiencies this sample exhibits. Aside from the mutilated dome, which looks like the figure has had a nasty face plant and shattered the piece, it also has the lower right quad dorsal appendage rotated out of alignment which indicates internal damage to the piece. Not a killer issue of itself but still noteworthy as part of its condition. The four decades old toy is also covered in dust from long years of neglect.
Despite these issues, it looks to be a very salvageable piece, one worthy of restoration. The figure will need to disassembled in order to repair that misaligned piece on it’s back. While in its dismantled state, the dust is easily cleared from each piece with the use of soapy water and a toothbrush. Those 2 actions will make the figure display worthy once again and be a proud addition to any collection.
Unfortunately, the damaged dome is irreparable. Nonetheless, it’s presence does potentially make the figure 100% complete (in terms of parts present, if not in condition) and just as important, potentially 100% genuine in terms of what’s actually there as no reproduction parts appear to populate the figure; but it’s a little hard to determine given the photographs fail to give a complete record of the figure. I am just assuming all the tongue parts are present and original but correspondence with the seller is recommended to determine this.
It’s a desirable piece despite it’s flaws and at the very least it’s possibly all there. It won’t be long for the first bid to tick over the sale of this item and it will be gone. I’ll certainly be watching the outcome of this item, that’s for sure.
Finally, this is the 2nd 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy on eBay I’ve featured on HIDEOUS PLASTIC today. Anyone who tells you they are rare is simply incorrect. It’s actually remarkably surprising how many of these 40 year old toys are around. Rare, it is not.
