UPDATE. This item is now sold. Oddly, this rare sample of the Kenner ALIEN toy took months to sell and went for a reduced price of US$650, around half of its original list price.
Are you looking for a 1979 Kenner ALIEN, complete with box, insert and a dozen or so other goodies? Then now’s a good opportunity to purchase a genuinely rare vintage item packed with bonus vintage goodies on eBay. This one is available from Canada and is listed for only US$1,200. Bargain! No, really. This item is a Bargain, despite the obviously loose lower right dorsal appendage hanging off it’s back. Serious collectors of the vintage toy, take note this is a very rare item. Now, I hear people say the Kenner ALIEN toy is rare, anyway but it’s actually not. Notwithstanding the fact these toys are now forty years old, the US pressing of the toy is relatively common. This item is from Canada – and that’s important because there are significant differences between the toy made and shipped within the US; and those made and shipped elsewhere awarding this particular sample the enviable status of being genuinely rare!
Just to give you some idea of the scarcity of these figures, around fifty US versions will appear and become available on eBay for each individual listing of the Canadian edition. Usually, the Canadian edition are loose without the box, as you would expect. This listing includes the box along with the red insert card. All that is missing here is the double sided poster and the window from the front of the box. Believe me, regardless of the flattened condition of the box which is easily restored to its correct shape, then this is a genuinely rare sample of this figure including its packaging. This is a great sample for someone lucky enough to land this prize.
There’s quite a few details on the Canadian figure that separate it from product manufactured south of the border. I’ve outlined many of them on the page dedicated to the 1979 Kenner ALIEN and it’s Canadian cousin. As this sample also includes the box, which is bilingual in its text badging, you won’t see many of these around at all. In recent years, I’ve only seen around half a dozen samples of the bilingual printed box and I actively hunt these things down.
Notwithstanding it’s price, of course, it does include a good number of other vintage items of note in the listing as well such as a set of original 1979 Topps ALIEN cards, an incomplete jigsaw puzzle, a couple of posters and a 1979 Kenner board game. If the board game is the one included in the photo gallery for this listing, then it too is a rare item as it is also a rare bilingual Canadian release. Once again, much more scarce and hard to find than the US pressing of the product. The ALIEN board game is a great item to any collection and an English/French edition will make anyone happy. …or you could sell off all the extraneous items included in this sale and retain the figure, potentially scoring a fantastic, rare Canadian variant of the nefarious 1979 Kenner ALIEN action figure for less than US$1,000. That’s great value in today’s collector market.
