UPDATE: This item sold before auction and is no longer available.
If you are looking for a replacement arm for the 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy, one has become available for auction on eBay, starting at US$4.99.
It looks to be a decent piece with all fingers and elbow spur attached. The neoprene anchor has been broken so the remains of the severed stump still float inside the arm, making it incomplete. The limb appears to have a stain or coating on it and this may indicate the arm was originally from a figure made in Canada. This is difficult to verify by looking at the images but my suspicions are raised in this regard. The general color of the styrene the limb is cast also appears to be a shade lighter than similar figures made in the US in 1979, so I am leaning towards the possibility this limb is originally removed from a Canadian version of the toy. If this is the case, any difference will only be obvious when the limb is actually attached to a US figure. It will appear to be lighter than the dark gun metal grey the rest of the toy is made of; and potentially be mismatched and look out of place.
There are minor dings and abrasions also present on the piece indicating it’s seen some activity even if that activity has been restricted to rattling around in the seller’s desk draw. Such marks are only light in nature and won’t affect the presentation of the limb once it is re-attached.
Nonetheless, it will be fun to see how high bidding on this incomplete severed limb climbs. These items are highly sought after so I’m expecting this vintage arm to sell well in excess of US$20. But anything can – and does – happen in these auctions.
