Here’s a nice treat, if you are into forty year old toys inside old beat up boxes. This complete Kenner ALIEN action figure and incomplete box is listed on eBay right now for the lowly sum of only US$745! ULTRA CHEAP! OK. Maybe not so cheap, after all. The price might be credible if the double sided black and white poster was also included. But it’s not. So, it’s probably worth only $600. Geeze, this is funny stuff, innit? Mind you, the vendor will probably accept a best offer. Maybe around US$500, if you are lucky.
Nonetheless, the action figure itself is a decent sample. A little wear here and there is present but he’s otherwise straight and complete. That’s always welcome, an indication the item is in good shape. There appears to be no missing parts, like many of these old toys often suffer from. That puts him squarely in the US$350 to US$450 mark, alone. Without the box.
The same can’t be said for the box though. It’s beaten and torn with both top and front windows missing. The top of the box has been ripped off but at least it’s still included in the listing. The red insert card is present, so that’s a good thing. No poster, though, as mentioned earlier. I’m not sure the box is worth the US$300 balance to make up the difference for the asking price, though. It’s a long way from being a great presentation piece. Maybe US$200 for the box. It’s really anyone’s guess. This box and figure will sell for whatever someone is prepared to pay.
Mind you, that Two Guys price sticker is a real corker. This toy was originally for sale at retail for US$14.97 and was then reduced by a solid %60 to US$4.95. How many times have I heard people say “I saw boxes of these things stacked up as pyramids for sale at K-Mart/JC Penney/Toys R Us/other retail chain store in 1979. I should have bought ’em all and stashed ’em in the garage for forty years. I’d have made a fortune today!”?
Yes, it’s true kiddies. This ugly ass old toy which was once discounted to less than US$5 is now worth about US$700. …and this isn’t even a fine quality sample of ye olde Kenner Products ALIEN toy. Amazing.
