I haven’t posted about any Kenner ALIEN toys lately so let’s call this one to your attention. Here’s one in an unopened box that sold recently for US$9,100. Yeah. You read that right. 25 bids made by 12 bidders has ensured the seller will be paying off a fair chunk of his mortgage this month. Don’t forget the US$15 postage, either. I know we’re living in crazy times with the world struggling against a global health crisis, floods and fires everywhere along with other political dramas and social upheavals unfolding in a wide variety of nations across the globe so it strikes me with more than just a little sense of inequity that a forty year old toy can sell for more than the combined annual income of two dozen families in Bangladesh.
Nonetheless, there it is. A sealed 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy, sold for an extraordinary price. This, of course, isn’t the first time such items have sold for an inordinate amount – and it won’t be the last, either. Such items aren’t rare, though. They are uncommon, yes; but certainly not rare. Even sealed boxes like this one pop up on eBay around once every couple of months or so.This is a fine example of the boxed toy but it’s not immaculate. There’s some signs of wear on corners but it’s definitely a nice prize. Is it worth the price tag pushing close to Ten Grand, though? Well, someone thinks so.
At any one time, there’s about a dozen 1979 Kenner ALIEN toys listed on the service. It’s true. Here. Go check ’em out. You can buy one right now. There’s plenty to choose from in a diverse variety of conditions ranging from crapped out to perfectly preserved condition. Many of them loose but some will be in boxes. Usually, opened and in less than desirable condition this recent sale; but it’s just a matter of time before another sealed Kenner ALIEN hits the service. The big question is, what will it sell for?
Usually, such sealed items sell for in excess of US$1,000. They are not rare. Not really. $2,000 is not out of the question, either; but reaching US$9,000 is rare. I guess you can make that claim with confidence.

Not a legit sale.
Sure. But can you disprove it?
