ALIEN Day is coming. April 26 is recognised in the fan community, along with a variety of licence holders and related commercial institutions, as the day we celebrate all things, well, ALIEN related. It’s usually a low key, online dedication of fan’s own work along with some commercial reveals, officially approved by Twentieth Century Studios (Formerly Fox) along with all manner of other good fun things. I thought I would take this opportunity to make my own observations and expectations for the day be known and here is as good a place as any.I for one, get very excited about the potential for what the day offers and often come away with mixed feelings once it’s over. Some expectations are met while others are not. I am always enthusiastic about new licenced and unlicenced goodies that may be announced, or released but ALIEN Day often ends bereft of any official word from 20thCS regarding any new movie. I personally believe it to be an ideal opportunity for the company to release some form of update or News item or some details or other information regarding the state of play of any future movie. To date, they’ve taken little opportunity to do so and this year may not be any different.
On the other hand, we already know with certainty a new movie along with a television series are both in production for the small screen. This time around I am hoping 20thCS have some details they can share with us, this year. After all, it is called ALIEN Day. You would think they would take advantage of this opportunity and make some form of announcement heralding any new production. Let’s just wait, watch and see. C’mon 20thCS, please come through with the goods this year. Please. A TV show teaser trailer, maybe? Or pics or other details would totally be appropriate. They certainly won’t go astray and be gobbled up by fans. We all know it.
As for goodies we might expect to see; as usual, I expect there to be a wide and wild lot of content ranging from fan made items and unlicenced product all the way up to officially licenced merchandise. Something from NECA would be great. They’re usually reliable in this regard. Maybe we’ll see some new Kenner tribute items from them. That would be neat. I’m hoping Lanard Toys might have some manner of reveal for us as their new product line is currently slated for an August 2022 release. That would be welcome, too.
I’m suspect Super7 might not have anything on offer this year. I’ve noticed ALIEN has been removed from their online store as a licenced entity across all of their product lines and discussions on facebook also indicate their licence for this property may have expired. So maybe we should be prepared to not expect too much from them. We shall see.
Who knows what else may be revealed by other companies who’ve lined up their goodies for us to be exposed to? There’s always a grab bag of announcements on ALIEN Day. T-shirts. Action figures. Books. Fan fiction. The works… It’s always a mixed lot of announcements and releases. The truth is simple, though. A day dedicated to hostile, slimy things from space that want to sit on your face and breed inside your chest cavity is more meaningful to me than Christmas. I’ll take it!
I’ll be keeping my eyes open for such things and will be posting News items here on HIDEOUS PLASTIC. As for how I intend to celebrate ALIEN Day? I expect I will be attending a screening of some ALIEN related movie with a small group of friends along with some healthy serves of pizza. That’s my traditional “go to” method of celebrating the occasion, each year.

I feel the same way. When Aliens Day first started it was a nice occasion, filled with lots of activities. I feel the last 3 years were way too mild to say the least. Hopefully this year they turn it up.
