It’s been a while since I’ve seen one of these much sought after loose body parts for a 1979 Kenner ALIEN toy for sale on eBay. This crest is currently listed for US$99.99. Sure, it’s a little pricey for a small piece of worn plastic but these old toys occupy a very unique place in the history books in every sense of the definition. This sample is a little rough around the edges with some burring along the connectors with other minor imperfections present. Nonetheless, this item is a genuine piece salvaged from a forty year old vintage toy and not a reproduction part. Prices like this are commonplace, matching the demand for these elusive parts. Along with the dome that sits on the head (and to a lesser degree, the dual tongue halves) this item is the most sought after body part for collectors wanting to complete their own Kenner ALIEN toy. An estimated 60-70% of surviving samples of the toy released in 1979 now lack this odd shaped piece. It’s worth watching just to witness the duration of the sale and see how long it takes to sell. Someone will buy it. It won’t take long, even at this price.

Looking on here for the first time , I’ve found it quite fascinating, I own one of these “Big Chaps” as you call them , I’ve owned it since the mid 1980s, as my mother in law had a toy shop over here in the uk , they were all discontinued and were being sold for 50 pence uk around a dollar ?
Unfortunately the box was lost over time but the figure is complete and totally original even has the crest dome …… I’ve just recently found an amazing reproduction box with red inner card , I’ve just now fitted it in .it looks amazing just like it’s shop bought , I can upload some pictures before it goes up for sale here in the uk , not sure on price but let’s see where it goes
Thanks for the information you have on this website
All the best
Mike
Thank you for the feedback, Mike. 50 pence? Oh, how we all wish we bought a pallet load of these things at that price!
One story was told to me by someone in the US. He was a purchase officer for a retail chain and tended a discount wholesaler to purchase stock for the company he worked for. He told me there was a large room packed with Kenner ALIEN toys; boxed figures all fresh and pristine condition. They were being sold to retail outlets at US$1 each.
There are plenty anecdotes of end cap and discount sales regarding these toys, selling for around US$5. At least those stores made a healthy profit on the discounted items, hey. lol.
At the end of the day, it’s true. There’s nothing normal about this toy.
